America’s Team has been boxed into a predicament with their franchise quarterback and he is set to earn a potential record-breaking contract.
Dak Prescott has been a friendly face during the Dallas Cowboys OTAs, unlike his disgruntled teammate CeeDee Lamb.
As history shows, star players will hold out from training camps to leverage new deals with the franchise because of their invaluable performances.
However, Dak Prescott holds all the cards in the current negotiation with the Cowboys.
Dak Prescott remains content with focusing on his contract year preparation
Therefore, he has no reason to make a statement by withdrawing services from the OTAs before the mandatory minicamp.
The franchise quarterback will be more focused on preparing for the 2024 season to keep his stock high.

Prescott has every right to test the open market in 2025 and the Cowboys will have no measure of prohibiting him from doing so.
The predicament is Jerry Jones is not satisfied with the postseason results under Prescott’s leadership but is playing with fire by delaying a contract extension for an All-Pro talent.
Prescott could be in the line for a record-breaking deal but stated he does not play for money
Moreover, the 30-year-old will have several suitors in the league and he could become the first QB to earn $60 million APY.
However, in the first batch of OTA training in May, Prescott said he does not play for money.
The Cowboys star will already have more money than he knows what to do with – he is guaranteed to earn $126 million from his current deal.
Money will no longer be a burning issue for the three-time Pro Bowler as he seeks his third NFL contract.
NFL expert believes Prescott’s ‘ego’ is forcing him to demand top-dollar
Former NFL Scout John Middlekauff has suggested that there is another reason he wants to be paid at the top of the market.
“This is all about ego and respect relative to his peers, and that’s what I think this comes down to and why it makes it a pretty complicated case,” he explained on the 3&Out podcast
Middlekauff implies that the Cowboys QB wants to be paid in line with his competitors because it is a sign of ‘respect’.
Prescott will need to be paid better than some of his competitors
Prescott will refuse to be paid less than recently signed signal-callers Kirk Cousins and Jared Goff.
Ultimately, it will be Jerry Jones’ decision if the team will propose a contract but they will not like the number required for Prescott’s signature.
Stephen Jones stated that the front office was ‘smart’ in free agency to save money which would be spent on new contracts for Micah Parson, Prescott, and Lamb.
Nonetheless, words are cheap and all three remain without new deals as the offseason continues.
