The Dallas Cowboys have still made no movement with their quarterback to agree to a new deal as he enters a contract year.
Dak Prescott has been sitting comfortably in the offseason and has been a happy camper in training knowing he holds the franchise over a barrel.
No-tag or trade clause has meant the 30-year-old can test free agency and leave the Cowboys in a desperate situation come the 2024 offseason.
However, America’s Team has acknowledged the money they must spend to keep their key players.
Stephen Jones believes they have taken a ‘smart’ approach with key players needing extensions
Besides Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and Micah Parsons are sniffing for new deals – record-breaking numbers!
Stephen Jones stated they have taken a ‘smart’ approach and held off from spending big during free agency. Therefore, they have the money at their disposal to keep their cornerstone players on lucrative extensions.
However, their price will always be determined by the market and players will be watching it closely.
Prescott and his agent understand that the minimum paying rate for established first-string quarterbacks sits at $50 million per year.

Jared Goff becomes the latest quarterback to enter the $50 million per year category
Yesterday, NFL reports confirmed that the Detroit Lions were awarding their comeback QB Jared Goff with a massive extension.
Goff is set to be penning a new four-year deal worth $212 million, including a mouth-watering $170 million guaranteed – working out to $53 million per year.
Therefore, the minimum price that Prescott would be asking for has been set but the talks of $60 million and resetting the quarterback market are very much alive.
Mike Fisher believes Prescott’s ‘price doesn’t change a bit’ after Goff deal
Veteran Cowboys reporter Mike Fisher believes Goff’s extension will have a next-to-no impact on Prescott.
“How did Dak’s price go up because someone just signed a 53 million-dollar-a-year contract? When we believe his price is 60. His price doesn’t change a bit,” Fisher said on his podcast Fish at 6.
“The Dak camp can still go, ‘I’m better than Jared Goff, and if you don’t see it that way Jerry [Jones] and Stephen [Jones] then fine. I’ll go be better than Jared Goff for someone else next year. I’m better than Jared Goff’.”
“This doesn’t jack Dak’s price up, it justifies where it is and should be.”
Ultimately, the 2023 MVP runner-up knows that he will be paid what he wants in the free agency market.
Prescott has made it clear that he is open to leaving Dallas in 2025
So, he has made it clear that if it is not the Cowboys who meet his demands then he will close the door on his tenure in Dallas.
If Prescott believes he is worthy of pushing towards $60 million per year, then the extension Goff has received is irrelevant to the eventual negotiation.
However, we are waiting for concrete talks to begin with both parties and in the next few months, the situation will begin to take shape.
