The Dallas Cowboys front office has been dealing with a PR disaster class this offseason and Stephen Jones has tried providing clarity.
At the Senior Bowl, Jerry Jones stated that the Cowboys would be ‘all in’ for the offseason.
Many fans and reporters assumed this to be the green light for a spending spree during free agency.
Moreover, expectations were America’s Team would sign acquisitions that could finally get them over the postseason.
However, this was not to be the case, and combined with an exodus of players, fans have become disillusioned with the franchise.
The Cowboys have sacrificed free agency to focus on key players’ deals
So far, five free agents have been signed and just one is a new addition from the 2023 roster Eric Kendricks.
There has been good reason to save the free agency cash for more exciting projects.
Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and Micah Parsons are eligible for new contracts. The first two have one year remaining on their current deals.

All three players could become the highest-paid in their positions, so Jerry Jones has had to be wise about where he invests the money.
Son, Stephen Jones, took to 105.3 The Fan to speak about the direction of the Cowboys.
He answered the claims of not truly being ‘all in’ this offseason.
“We spend max, max money year in and year out. All 32 can only spend the same amount of money over a five-year stretch. When we’re all said and done, we max out our salary cap every year.”
Stephen Jones says they ‘have to hold money back’ in the offseason
Furthermore, the executive vice president of the Cowboys explained why there has been limited spending so far.
“It doesn’t mean it happens overnight. But when you’re wanting to sign players like Dak (Prescott) and Micah (Parsons) and CeeDee (Lamb), then you have to hold money back if you want to have a realistic chance of signing those guys.”
Jones shut down any nonsense about America’s Team not being fully committed and said he has ‘never not known us to be all in’.
The intentions seem clear, all three cornerstone players can expect new deals this offseason.
Jones believes the Cowboys have been smart in their Free Agency restraint, which will eventually allow them to sign their stars.
Lamb a no-show at OTAs to leverage a new deal
Lamb is currently holding out from the team’s OTAs to speed up the negotiations for a new deal.
Prescott has attended but rumors circle that he could be made to play out the rest of his contract.
Finally, Parsons has two years remaining on his rookie deal but is eligible for a fresh contract in 2024.
America’s Team is spinning financial plates and has been handicapped in their offseason spending.
