NFL Expert says the Cowboys face a similar dilemma as the Los Angeles Rams did in 2020

America’s Team have been sucked into the offseason squabble of Dak Prescott’s looming extension but has shown reluctance, and one expert believes there are similarities between them and the Los Angeles Rams.

Dak Prescott has failed to get the Dallas Cowboys to an NFC Championship, never mind making a Super Bowl appearance.

Jerry Jones and the fan base have been starved of success, with factions of Cowboy Nation blaming the 81-year-old owner.

The franchise owner has been hesitant to give the 30-year-old a new deal and the future looks unclear – could free agency be on the cards in 2025?

In eight years as a starter for Prescott, he boasts an underwhelming 2-5 postseason record.

Cowboys are hesitant with Prescott and Albert Breer says the situation is similar to the Rams

The Cowboys could be reluctant to show the money to Dak Prescott after having no tangible success.

Senior reporter for Sports Illustrated Albert Breer has suggested that the current situation for America’s Team is similar to an NFC team four years ago.

“Let me ask you this, does it make sense to you that maybe that the Cowboys are right now with Dak Prescott where the Rams were with Jared Goff in 2020,” Breer said on the Rich Eisen Show.

“They’re asking the bigger, ‘Are we ever gonna get there with this guy (Prescott), question’.”

Breer makes it clear that this does not mean offloading the 2023 MVP runner-up because the Rams ‘had a golden opportunity’.

Sean McVay had lost faith in Goff and exploited a trade with the Lions

The Rams exploited a brilliant opportunity to execute a player-for-player trade with the Detroit Lions, which saw Goff head to Michigan and Matthew Stafford to L.A.

The tail of the story was the Rams had lost confidence in Goff to deliver a Super Bowl ring.

Furthermore, the 29-year-old posted a playoff record of a loss against Tom Brady at Super Bowl LIII and two first-round exits in 2017 and 2020.

Goff sat on a four-year extension worth $134 million and the Rams offloaded the star via a trade.

Next year, they won the Super Bowl spearheaded by the deadly combination of Cooper Kupp and Stafford.

Jerry Jones may been in a similar predicament to the Los Angeles Rams of four years ago

Ultimately, Jerry Jones may find himself at a similar crossroads with the Dak Prescott in Dallas.

The front office has stated that they are optimistic to work out a deal with their QB and Jones said Prescott was a quarterback who has the potential to win a ring.

Actions speak louder than words and neither the player nor the franchise has approached the negotiation table.

Dak Prescott could be willing to test the free agency market in 2025 and there will be plenty of suitors sniffing around for All-Pro talent.
