The Dallas Cowboys front office has not attempted to extend their superstar talent Micah Parsons this offseason and the Jones’ must empty their pockets to keep him.
Amid Dak Prescott’s potential extension and CeeDee Lamb’s OTA contractual holdout, sits Micah Parsons.
The 24-year-old has entered the fourth year of his rookie deal and is eligible for his first veteran contract. Technically, the Dallas Cowboys can sit on a potential deal for another two years, but they could risk Parsons sniffing somewhere else.
Parsons has entered the frame to be the best defensive player in the league
Parsons has demonstrated that he is one of, if not, the best defensive player in the NFL. Moreover, the Dallas defensive hybrid has already entered the same conversations as Nick Bosa, Myles Garrett, and T.J. Watt.
Being the youngest of this esteemed group of talent, Parsons is set to become the highest-paid defensive player in the NFL.

Unlike his colleague CeeDee Lamb, the edge rusher is staying away from the Cowboys OTAs because of his desire to train on his program.
Moreover, Parsons has been seen competing in several fitness drills with trainer Tony Mack. The three-time All-Pro was absent for the same reason this time last year and has similarly repeated his offseason.
Due to Parsons’ game-changing talent, the Cowboys would be wise to pay their player in 2024. There is no incentive to delay the inevitable because the price will only increase.
Cowboys ‘playing with fire’ and Parsons should holdout for ‘financial protection’
Mike Florio and Chris Simms discussed the contractual offseason approach by the Cowboys and the latter said the franchise was ‘playing with fire’.
Furthermore, the pair encourages the player not to step out onto the field again until he is given his deserved paycheque.
Florio has a personal reason as to why Parsons should refuse to play a single minute until he is sent a new contract.
“At some point that need to have this guy (Parsons) taken care of. He needs to have the financial protection against an injury, because of the position he plays,” the NFL expert explained on Pro Football Talk.
“This is different to quarterback or receiver. The chances of a career-altering injury are more pronounced when you are in the middle of the throw of all the bodies, the legs, and the torsos. Any one play could be your last play, so he needs to get that contract before it potentially happens.”
Micah Parsons’ chances of a serious injury are much more likely due to his position
Due to being in the trenches, Parsons’ chances of enduring a career-threatening injury are amplified. Both experts believe he must get paid to have financial protection before playing another competitive snap in the league.
Stephen Jones has stated that they have been ‘smart’ to save crucial cap space money, so they can pay their key starters.
However, there is a chance with the Cowboys’ recent approach that they could delay Parsons’ deal.
