Dak Prescott is expecting a huge paycheque in 2024 and Jared Goff’s new contract with the Detroit Lions has not helped the Cowboys’ negotiation leverage.
‘Leverage’ is a word that has been chucked about during the offseason involving Dak Prescott and he holds it over his employers.
Ultimately, his second biggest cap hit across the league ($55 million) and the no-trade or franchise tag clause has cornered the Dallas Cowboys.
The 30-year-old is coming off an MVP runner-up season further supporting his cause for a blockbuster deal.
Dak Prescott could be fishing for $60 million per year despite Jared Goff’s new deal
Numbers hovering around the $60 million range have been suggested but the Cowboys are reluctant to cough up that money.
Nonetheless, Prescott will be hitting free agency in 2025 if the franchise and player cannot find a solution.
Therefore, multiple teams, looking to make the next jump, will be targeting the three-time Pro Bowler and would be prepared to pay handsomely.

It is confirmed that Jared Goff has accepted a $53 million four-year extension from the Detroit Lions.
This may not have any influence on Prescott’s aspiring figure if it is close to or at the $60 million range.
However, this has sparked debate and comparisons between the two quarterbacks.
Goff has the postseason success that the Cowboys signal-caller craves, with two NFC Championship appearances and a lone Super Bowl final.
Chris Simms says he prefers Prescott due to one crucial ‘advantage’
Chris Simms believes Prescott has an ‘advantage’ over the Lions quarterback but their skill level is very close.
“It’s two guys who have a similar way about them. They are mentally strong,” Simms explained via Pro Football Talk.
“I just think Prescott controls the ball a little bit better in my opinion and of course, his movement gives him a little more of an advantage than Jared Goff in that department too.”
Goff has been under the guidance of one of the best upcoming offensive coordinators Ben Johnson who has elevated his game.
Goff has excellent running game support to take away pressure unlike Prescott
Furthermore, the 29-year-old has been supported by an electric running game through the tandem of David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs.
Both players combined for 1960 yards of total rushing offense, which is crucial to alleviate pressure from quarterbacks.
The Dallas Cowboys finished with a total rushing offense ranked sixteenth in the league.
Jerry Jones stated this is a vital area to address in the offseason but they have lost Tony Pollard and added the aging Ezekiel Elliott.
The Cowboys have not helped Prescott like the Lions have helped Goff. Consequently, the Louisana native comes under more pressure and is forced to deliver by himself in crunch moments.
If Prescott could be given the supporting run game like Goff, the Cowboys’ postseason results could benefit greatly.
