Dez Bryant gives immediate verdict on Tony Pollard leaving Dallas Cowboys for Tennessee

Running backs in this year’s free agency market are in very high demand and the Dallas Cowboys have seemingly learned the hard way.

Saquon Barkley, Derrick Henry, Josh Jacobs, and De’Andre Swift were just a small pool of running backs in the stacked open market position.

Tony Pollard signs with the Titans

Cowboys running back Tony Pollard was also made to join the free agency merry-go-round as the team chose not to use the franchise tag on him for consecutive years.

NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reports: “The Titans are giving former Cowboys RB Tony Pollard a 3-year deal worth $24M, source said.”

Pollard was not expected to be retained by America’s Team and did land on the open market.

However, the Dallas Cowboys were open to the idea of offering Pollard a new deal once free agency was activated.

The 26-year-old was not given the franchise tag as the Cowboys would have been forced to pay the average salary of the top five earners in said position.

This was a risky strategy and Pollard became vulnerable to the offers from other franchises.

Recent revelations have highlighted how this risky strategy has backfired.

De’Andre Swift has signed a deal with the Chicago Bears and Josh Jacobs has signed with the Green Bay Packers.

Cowboys were open to re-signing Pollard

A recent report by NFL Insider Dianna Russini has stated how the Cowboys have lost out: “The Dallas Cowboys were in on RB Tony Pollard.

“The Giants and Vikings had their eye on him too. He took the bigger payday with Tennessee, per sources.”

Tony Pollard has chosen the bigger payday in Tennessee in favor of being lured back to Dallas.

This is a blow to start the offseason proceedings for Jerry Jones and his staff in the Cowboys front office.

The former Cowboy started the season carrying an injury but claimed to be feeling much better in the later stages of the season.

In addition, Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant has shared his view on the recent story: “Hate to see Pollard go because I feel like he was not utilized the correct way.

“No, he’s not your every down back. But he’s a damn great change of pace back who made big plays Zeke was let go a year too early now Pollard is gone because of bad management I’m looking forward to seeing what Dallas backfield will look like this year.”

Bryant seems to be disillusioned by the update and feels like the coaching staff failed to use Pollard correctly.

Henry to Dallas possible

Now, he is filling the shoes of fellow free agent Derrick Henry.

Henry spent eight seasons as a Titan and finished as the league’s rushing leader in 2019 and 2020.

Could this mean that Pollard replaces Henry and Henry replaces Pollard?

Fans like to throw around ideas and it would be a coincidence.

What we do know is the Cowboys have been dealt a low blow on the opening day of free agency.
