The Dallas Cowboys kicked off their spring workout program but two of their key players were no-shows.

NFL fans are getting their first taste of the football season slowly returning as their favorite players begin to lock in for 2024.

However, these training sessions also give contract-hunting players their first opportunity to leverage new deals.

CeeDee Lamb refuses to show up for OTA due to his contract

CeeDee Lamb refused to appear at the first OTA of 2024 and his reasons are clear as day.

Entering the final year of his rookie deal, Lamb wants to receive his first veteran contract.

New York Giants v Dallas Cowboys

It is confirmed by the Dallas Morning News reporter Michael Gehlken that the decision is purely based on contractual reasoning.

Additionally, the journalist added that fans should not expect to see the wide receiver attend non-mandatory training until a new deal is issued.

Nonetheless, Lamb is not the only key player who was absent from the OTA yesterday.

Micah Parsons was also absent from the Cowboys’ first offseason workout

Micah Parsons, also eligible for a new deal, was a no-show in Dallas.

The hybrid linebacker is entering the fourth year of his rookie deal and is entitled to receive a new contract.

Veteran Cowboys reporter Mike Fisher has suggested that the 24-year-old could become the highest-paid defensive player of all time.

Yet, he refused to appear at the first offseason Cowboys workout but had different reasons.

Michael Gehlken reported that the reasons were ‘unrelated to his contract’.

Furthermore, he reported on X: “Parsons is training for [the] season in a manner he considered optimal. Same approach led to personal gains in 2023.”

Parsons’ contract is not a factor in no-show at Cowboys’ OTA

Parsons took a similar approach during the 2022 offseason and reaped the rewards of sticking to his workout regime.

Players are heavily encouraged to participate in the franchise OTAs as they need to demonstrate their commitment to earn a spot on the roster.

However, players like Lamb and Parsons have no fear of being cut because of their invaluable performances.

Both are two of the best players in their respective positions so they are confident to receive lucrative deals.

Players across the league can follow a similar approach to Lamb.

Minnesota Vikings receiver Justin Jefferson has also refused to show up for his non-mandatory training.

The two are vying for deals that could reset the wide receiver market.
