Jerry Jones has kept his wallet firmly in his pocket during the offseason, and despite receiving backlash for this, one Dallas Cowboys star has taken it as a positive.

Rewind to the Senior Bowl, Jerry Jones stated that the Dallas Cowboys were going to be ‘all in’ for the 2024 NFL season.

Understandably, fans were eager to see what this could entail for their offseason activity, were they going to spend heavily in free agency for star talent?

The answer was no! As it stands, America’s Team has only signed three outside free agents in 2024.

Cowboy Nation was optimistic that the team would go all out to get over the hump

After the Cowboys crashed out to the Green Bay Packers in the wildcard round, fans were hopeful the front office would do whatever it takes to break the postseason curse.

However, their dreams and wishes have not been fulfilled. The team lost key starters like Tyron Smith, Tyler Biadasz, Jonathan Hankins, and Dorance Armstrong to free agency.

Moreover, the Cowboys set their sights on the NFL Draft to replace these key players as a cheaper alternative.

Tyler Guyton, Cooper Beebe, and Marshawn Kneeland are three rookies expected to be taking their first snaps in Cleveland on the opening day.

Stephen Jones supports the front office’s offseason strategy

Vice President Stephen Jones explained how this was a ‘smart’ move by the franchise in order to save valuable cap space.

The optimism at the start of the season through the ‘all in’ comments has plummeted and fans are skeptical of the team’s capabilities in 2024.

Brandin Cooks feels the front office ‘have a group’… ‘that can get it done’

Yet, the lack of free agency signings has not all been seen negatively. Brandin Cooks viewed the offseason activity as a ‘compliment’

“For the most part, I don’t really pay attention, but when I do I take it as a compliment,” Cooks explained via Gojo and Golic on YouTube.

“Will (McClay), Jerry (Jones), and Stephen (Jones), obviously they feel that they have a group that is in place that can get it done. You take that as, ‘You know I’m gonna work that much harder to be able to prove them right on not having to make those [free agency] moves’. So, when you look up they made those right decisions.

Cooks sees the lack of free agency signings as a sign that the Jones’ have faith in the current group to get the job done.

Furthermore, he uses it as motivation to prove the front office is right and forces him to work harder.

Cooks’ wide receiving core will need someone to fill in at WR3 in 2024

America’s Team lacks a standout WR3 on the roster, the Cowboys could look at veteran Michael Thomas to bolster their offense.

Nonetheless, the coaches could turn to Jason Tolbert or 2024 sixth-round pick Ryan Flournoy to step up to the role. This is the ‘compliment’ that Cooks could be referring to with the free agency activity.
