After draft weekend, the Cowboys announced the comeback of a running back who broke franchise records.

The Dallas Cowboys have signed running back Ezekiel Elliott, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network on Monday.

Medical exams are pending to finalize the contract. Per Clarence Hill of the Star-Telegram, the deal is expected to be valid for one year and $3 million, with $2 million guaranteed to the player.

Elliott returns to the team that selected him with the fourth overall pick in the 2016 draft after a one-year stint with the New England Patriots. In Foxborough, the athlete recorded 642 yards and three touchdowns over 17 games.

In the Draft, the organization managed to fill most of the positions that needed reinforcements. It remains to be seen whether positive results will come.

Former NFL player doesn’t see Elliott solving Dallas’ running game situation

Richard Sherman, former NFL cornerback, recognized the efforts of America’s Team in the Draft and in all the positions they addressed, but in the RB position he doesn’t believe Zeke’s signing is enough for the franchise to make a comeback on the playoffs.

“The offensive line that Zeke ran behind in his prime and when he was at his best, I think the expectations that Jerry and Cowboys fans are gonna have are unrealistic for what you’re getting right now from Zeke, what you’re getting from this offensive line. You’ll have a rookie left tackle, you got great players, and Tyler Smith, but I just don’t see him being the same player and having the same impact,” he said on Monday’s edition of the Undisputed show.

“The running back position is such an easily draftable position. You can get a quality back in later rounds. You can get a quality back basically anywhere, you can get a quality back in free agency.”

Sherman also joked that Cowboys Nation won’t have to spend money on new jerseys.

“But at least the fans don’t have to buy a new jersey. You can just go ahead and go in the closet, dust that jersey on off, that 21, and throw it on your back. So, I guess it may hurt jersey sales a little bit in Dallas, but I don’t know if he’s saving the team.”

Skip Bayless is not happy with either the Cowboys’ Draft or the RB’s return

Skip Bayless, an outspoken Dallas fan, was clearly irritated by all the moves made by the team in the Draft and also by the lack of free-agency signings. Elliott’s return was the final straw.

“Jerry Jones and company announced this today to try to ease the pain over his not being able to land a single running back in the seven rounds of the draft.”

“It was a PR move”, Bayless claimed.

The show host brought to the table some of the player’s stats to justify his point as well.

“Would you believe that Zeke Elliott, in his eight NFL seasons, has gone down in yards per game every single season? That’s hard to do, but he’s done it, and he hit bottom in New England last year where he averaged 38 yards per game. So he went from 109 as a rookie and his first three years were extraordinary.”

“They were Hall Of Fame type years, then Jerry paid him and he hit the wall that he used to run through – and he drops from 109 (yards) a game to 38 a game for New England last year, 3.5 yards per carry, which was a career low.”
