Despite the initial surge of free agency and the NFL Draft passing, franchises around the league can still find useful talent to build up their rosters in what remains of free agency.
The Dallas Cowboys have been the lowest offseason spenders, whilst their NFC East rivals the Philadelphia Eagles have been the biggest.
Per Vice President Stephen Jones, the Cowboys have been ‘smart’ by saving money to accommodate their lucrative contracts which will be handed to Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and Micah Parsons.
Dallas needs a WR3 and could look to free agency after limited movement
As of this moment, the Cowboys have registered just three outside free agents in 2024.
However, they should be looking to maximize their cap space and search for reliable talent that remains available.

One of the positions that remains open for the Cowboys to pursue a free agent is at WR3.
Lamb and Brandin Cooks remain the only established wide receivers on the roster and America’s Team’s third spot is up for grabs.
The Cowboys decided to cut Michael Gallup after his production dropped significantly
The franchise decided to cut Michael Gallup in the offseason to save the $9.5 million on the cap. Their project with him failed after only registering 1,287 yards in his final three seasons.
Therefore, the Cowboys could look at free agency for his replacement. The team did draft Ryan Flournoy in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, but they could look to an experienced veteran to share the reps while he is eased into the NFL life.
ESPN’s Matt Bowen produced an article on the best NFL landing spots for the remaining free agents.
Matt Bowen suggests America’s Team target Michael Thomas in free agency
The NFL expert suggested that the Dallas Cowboys would be the most appropriate team for Michael Thomas to link up with.
Thomas, the former 2018 and 2019 First-Team All-Pro, has been tormented by injuries over the past four seasons.
Since 2020, the three-time Pro Bowler has played in just 20 games, making it harder for teams to take a punt on him.
However, he caught 448 yards and a score in 2023, meaning he is a cheaper alternative to Gallup for similar production.
Cowboys could look to Jason Tolbert to make significant strides in 2023
The Cowboys could also be looking at Jalon Tolbert to make the jump in his third season and a veteran to help him could be beneficial.
Ultimately, if they can keep Thomas healthy, an experienced player who is a three-level threat would be a fantastic addition.
