Chad Ochocinco rates the impact Sneed’s trade has had on the Chiefs’ ‘three-peat’ chances

The Kansas City Chiefs put to bed one of the hottest offseason topics as they traded away L’Jarius Sneed.

Sneed was given the non-exclusive franchise tag and Chris Jones was provided a new five-year deal.

Brett Veach deemed Jones to be more worthy of being paid and the Chiefs’ hands were tied.

The cornerback was due to receive just north of $19 million on the tag.

Many fans wanted to see Sneed return for the ‘three-peat’ season but Kansas traded him away.

Sneed is a Titan

As a result, the Tennessee Titans have given up their 2025 third-round pick and are swapping seventh-round picks in 2024.

The 27-year-old was hopeful that he would return but the Chiefs were unable to accommodate his financial needs.

Tennessee has inked Sneed to a four-year deal worth $76 million, with $55 million guaranteed.

Sneed now has financial security on the new deal and would not have had that playing on the tag in Missouri.

Travis Kelce was hopeful that they could have signed Sneed to a new deal in his latest podcast.

Sneed was a model player and the best cornerback in the free-agent market.

With Jaylon Johnson of the Chicago Bears setting the market with his $76 million new deal, the Chiefs’ star saw an opportunity.

Understandably, Sneed has opted to take the bigger pay cheque.

Ochocinco confident Chiefs three-peat

So how does this loss impact the Chiefs’ chances of three successive Super Bowl titles?

On the Night Cap podcast, Chad Ochocinco had this opinion: “I don’t think it impacts them at all.

“They still have a nice core of defensive backs there and I think someone is going to step up into Sneed’s place. Obviously, I think they are going to be able to draft… that is something the organization has always done.

“As long as Mahomes is always there, they will always be in contention.”

Ochocinco is confident Sneed’s departure will not cause too many problems.

Who fills the Sneed void

The Chiefs have Trent McDuffie who is the likely candidate to fill the hole.

Additionally, they have the nickel Jaylen Watson who is more than comfortable to adopt a permanent role.

On top of that, Brett Veach has been immense when it comes to identifying rookie talent.

It is the backbone of one of the greatest dynasties in NFL history.

The Chiefs know they have the players and drafting intelligence to not feel the absence of L’Jarius Sneed.
