The Dallas Cowboys have been backed into a leverage battle with the franchise quarterback Dak Prescott and one NFL expert wants them to come out and tell the truth.

Dak Prescott has statistically come off his best season since his rookie campaign and finished second in the MVP ballot.

Yet, Jerry Jones has refused to budge on a contract extension for the signal-caller which has had numerous people scratching their heads.

Stephen Jones claims that the team has saved money to pay Dak Prescott

Son and Vice President Stephen Jones says they are focused on paying Dak Prescott with a new extension but the price will make his father sweat.

Courtesy of leverage and there being no restrictions to test free agency in 2025, the Dallas Cowboys must pay Prescott at the top of the market.

Dallas Cowboys v Los Angeles Chargers

Last year, Mike McCarthy called the plays for Prescott and the results were an outright success with his MVP-caliber season.

Various franchises will snap up Dak Prescott if he is to test free agency but he could remain with the Cowboys.

The Dallas Cowboys have delayed Dak Prescott’s crucial extension all offseason

The Cowboys have had all offseason to tie down the 30-year-old to a long-term future, making you wonder, what are their true intentions?

They have talked about wanting to keep Prescott. NFL Insider Tom Pelissero stated that the coaching staff adores the three-time Pro Bowler and believes he is a true leader.

However, words are cheap and actions are more telling.

So far, Todd France, Prescott’s agent, has not approached the bargaining table with Jerry Jones and talks have been non-existent.

NFL expert suggests the franchise tells the truth about their Prescott contract approach

NFL Craig Carton explained how the front office should come clean about their true offseason approach for the QB.

“I would rather the Cowboys just come out and say it, ‘We like Dak Prescott a lot, he’s been a very good quarterback for us, we’ve had a lot of great regular seasons, but we haven’t had the playoff success we all want, but we are not giving him four years 200 million bucks until he shows in January he can make big plays,” the show host explained.

It is a precarious approach by the Dallas Cowboys front office, especially when other quarterbacks are being tied down to new deals.

Dak Prescott will be eyeing up more money than fellow NFC QB Jared Goff

Jared Goff was rewarded for his career U-turn with a new four-year $53 APY extension with the Detroit Lions.

NFL expert Chris Simms claimed he preferred Prescott over the Lions QB on Pro Football Talk. Therefore, the Cowboy is likely in line for more money, and talks of becoming the first $60 million APY QB have been whispered.

Ultimately, Jerry Jones could make Prescott play out on a contract year and the intentions could start to reveal themselves over the next few months.

The longer the situation drags on, the increasing chances of free agency will grow.
