Marquise Brown is the newest addition to the Chiefs roster and has all the makings for a dangerous partnership with Patrick Mahomes.
However, the new wide receiver could have been on the Chiefs team back in his rookie season.
The Chiefs have scooped up free agent ‘Hollywood’ Brown after being released by the Arizona Cardinals.
His signing had been welcomed with open arms and has addressed one of the key offseason issues.

Mahomes lacks dynamic weapons
Mahomes needs reliable receiving outlets and with Marquez Valdes-Scantling cut, Mecole Hardman hitting free agency, and Kadarius Toney being out of favor in Kansas, they needed to revitalize their receiving core.
Brown brings the combination of speed and an established set of hands.
Speed has been a big absence downfield for Mahomes since the departure of Tyreek Hill.
Now the Chiefs have a speedy outlet that their two-time MVP can utilize.
But could Brown have linked up with Mahomes before 2024?
Yes, the rookie was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in 2019 and was their first-round pick.
Moreover, he was the first wide receiver taken off the board by any franchise.
He decided to forego his senior year in college and become eligible for the NFL Draft.
Kansas missed out on Brown in 2019
Kansas City sacrificed their first-round pick in 2019 after they traded it away for the Seattle Seahawks defensive end Frank Clark.
So, Brett Veach and Andy Reid had to wait for the 56th overall pick to have their selection.
Additionally, Kansas was on the lookout for a wide receiver and Brown was a priority target.
As we know the Brown was taken early and the Chiefs settled for Mecole Hardman as their receiver.
The 26-year-old has come out and shed some light on how close he was to being a chief in 2019: “Yeah, I thought I was gonna be drafted by the Chiefs.”
“We’ve talked about that since I’ve been here. They did a lot of work on me. So, I mean, you know, the world’s got a way of having things come around like that.”
Brett Veach has been a fan
So, Brown’s arrival in Kansas was only delayed.
General manager Brett Veach has been a fan of the receiver since his college days and now they finally have him.
Andy Reid does not get involved with the drafting aspect of the business and leaves it all to Veach.
The offensive genius of Reid will be able to get Brown firing all fronts and with the best QB in the NFL throwing the ball – it is a recipe for success.
