Patrick Mahomes and MVP awards go hand in hand and the supreme quarterback is showing no signs of not collecting any more.
The Kansas City Chiefs signal caller is the face of the franchise as of this moment and has collected MVP honours like they are going out of fashion.
As he enters the prime of his career, whilst being a crucial cornerstone for one of the most dominant franchises in recent NFL history, the opportunities to win further MVP titles will certainly not dry up.
Patrick Mahomes MVP awards
So far, Mahomes has accumulated five MVP awards: 2018 and 2022 regular season MVP and 2019, 2022 and 2023 Super Bowl MVP titles.
With the considered ‘G.O.A.T’, Tom Brady, sitting on a seemingly untouchable record of five Super Bowl MVP awards, Mahomes is certainly within the realms of possibility of catching him.
Only three players in NFL history have managed to secure three or more Super Bowl MVP accolades, they are, Tom Brady (5), Hall of Famer Joe Montana (3) and the Chiefs golden boy Patrick Mahomes (3).
Brady appeared in 10 Super Bowls throughout his record-breaking career for the New England Patriots and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Mahomes has had his say when questioned about the whispers of him potentially catching the seven-time world champion:
‘I think any athlete wants to be the best ever in their position and I want to be, but I understand how hard it is going to be’.
The record chaser also understands how imperative it is to be apart of a team, as with only a world-class team will he even be able to come close:
‘[I need] to try a do whatever it takes to have great guys around me like I do now… but at the end of the day it is a team sport.’
Regular season MVP
In the category of MVP regular season awards, the competition is much stronger. After seven seasons in the NFL, the quarterback out of Texas Tech has achieved only two.
Don’t get me wrong, it is an incredible achievement to even win one, but if he is determined to break all sorts of records, the Kansas City Chiefs star will need to win many more. Peyton Manning leads the way with five, after an incredible career with the Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos.
The generational quarterback certainly has the resources and team built around him to appear in many more Super Bowls. Although, it is easier said than done – can he catch either Brady or Manning’s records?
