Since joining forces in 2018, Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes have established themselves as the best active quarterback-head coach duo in the NFL.

With the Kansas City Chiefs dramatic 25-22 Super Bowl triumph over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, the tandem continued their postseason dominance.

How many times has Mahomes won Super Bowl MVP?

In their Super Bowl triumph, quarterback Patrick Mahomes went 34/36 for 333 yards and one interception.

For his efforts, the 28-year-old was named the Super Bowl MVP.

By winning that award Mahomes became only the third player in Super Bowl history to claim that trophy on consecutive occasions, with the others being Bart Starr and Terry Bradshaw.

It’s also his third Super Bowl MVP trophy, putting him in a tie with former 49er and one-time Chief Joe Montana for second-most all-time.

The man Mahomes is trying to catch to become the G.O.A.T., Tom Brady is unsurprisingly leads that race with five Super Bowl MVP awards, four with the Pats and one in Tampa.

Brady, however, never won it on consecutive occasions.

Mahomes is now just the sixth player in NFL history to win Super Bowl MVP multiple times, with the others being Brady (five), Bradshaw (two), Starr (two), Eli Manning (two) and Montana (three).

How many Super Bowls has Andy Reid won as a head coach?

The Chief’s come-from-behind victory over San Fran gives their head coach, Andy Reid, a winning Super Bowl record of 3-2.

All three of his victories have come since taking charge in Kansas City.

Reid is now the seventh coach in NFL history to win the Super Bowls in back-to-back seasons, with the others being Vince Lombardi (Green Bay Packers), Chuck Noll (twice with the Pittsburgh Steelers), Don Shula (Miami Dolphins), Jimmy Johnson (Dallas Cowboys), Mike Shanahan (Denver Broncos) and Bill Belichick (New England Patriots).

He’s now tied with Joe Gibbs and Bill Walsh for the third-most Super Bowl victories by a head coach and just one behind Noll for second.

What does this mean for Mahomes/Reid’s legacy?

Reid and Mahomes have had tremendous success together in both the regular season and playoffs.

They are now just the second QB/coach duo to win consecutive Super Bowl titles together this century after Brady and Belichick did it in 2004.

Their Super Bowl victory puts Reid/Mahomes halfway toward the six that the aforementioned duo claimed together.

Now Reid and Mahomes have 15 career postseason victories, moving ahead of the Steelers Noll and Bradshaw for second all-time, trailing only Brady/Belichick.

The scary thing is that Mahomes is only 28, and Reid said he’s not considering retirement.

Even more impressive is that Mahomes/Reid have only lost one postseason affair together in regulation time, to Brady and the Bucs during the 2020 Super Bowl.

Another triumph next season would put them even with Noll/Bradshaw, who claimed four Lombardi trophies together in Pittsburgh.

Next season, Mahomes and Reid can become the first NFL coach/QB duo ever to three-peat.

Doing that could arguably make them the greatest quarterback/head coach tandem in NFL history.
