A popular NFL simulation game projects a Kansas City Chiefs repeat on Sunday.

Each year ahead of the Super Bowl, the popular Madden NFL football game predicts who will come out on top in the big game.

According to Madden NFL 24’s official simulation the Chiefs will walk away with a narrow 30-28 victory over the San Francisco 49ers this weekend.

Meanwhile, it’s also predicting that Patrick Mahomes will win the Super Bowl MVP trophy for a second successive season.

How accurate are the Madden simulations?

World Cup fans may recall one of the most random yet accurate prognosticators from 2010.

At the finals in South Africa that year, Paul the Octopus boasted a 100% record for predictions in eight games, including Spain lifting the trophy.

Fortunately, if you’re a Niners fan, the Madden simulator is not nearly as accurate.

Ahead of Super Bowl LVII last season, the Madden simulation predicted a Philadelphia Eagles triumph 31-17 over KC.

Instead, we saw a Chiefs 38-35 victory thanks to a game-winning field goal from Harrison Butker.

Madden predicted Mahomes would complete 29 of 39 passes for 249 yards and a touchdown.

While the Chiefs’ QB put up lower passing numbers than that (182), he threw for two scores, going 21/27 through the air.

Madden also predicted Chris Jones would make four tackles and register two sacks versus Philly.

Jones didn’t register a single sack and had just two tackles.

Since Super Bowl XXXVII between the Carolina Panthers and New England Patriots, the Madden simulator has correctly picked the winning team 11 times out of 20.

With a score of just over 50% one might wonder if that is the true Madden curse?

They picked the perfect score only once over that span when the Patriots defeated the Seattle Seahawks 28-24 in 2015.

When was the last time Madden correctly predicted the Super Bowl winner?

The last time, Madden picked the winner correctly was the first championship for Andy Reid’s group.

On that occasion in Super Bowl LVII, Patrick Mahomes ran for a one-yard score, and Travis Kelce had a one-yard TD catch as KC beat the 49ers.

Madden had the score of that game being 35-31 for the Chiefs, but in actuality, it was 31-20.

They did, however, correctly predict Mahomes as Super Bowl MVP.

A year later, though, it also projected the Chiefs repeating as Super Bowl champions, calling for a 37-27 triumph over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

What we got, though, was a Tom Brady masterclass, with the Bucs QB posting a 125.8 rating, with three touchdown passes and 209 yards through the air.

Mahomes had 270 yards passing, though the rest was forgettable as he tossed a pair of interceptions with a passer rating of 52.3.

The last time Madden predicted a repeat winner correctly was the 2004 season, with the Patriots defeating the Eagles.

Interestingly, the last three times that Madden has correctly chosen the Super Bowl winner, an AFC team won the big game.

So, after proving Madden wrong a season ago, the Chiefs will try to prove it right on Sunday.
