Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes- A Winning Combination

Add as preferred source on Google

Andy Reid came to Kansas City in 2013 with the reputation of being a great coach incapable of winning the big game.

While he’d failed to put together a winning season in his final two years with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2011 and 2012, Reid still oversaw many memorable campaigns in the City of Brotherly Love.

That success has continued into Kansas City, a team that has only missed the playoffs once since he arrived (2014).

While this team was highly successful with Alex Smith behind centre, winning 10 or more regular season games in 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2017, the addition of Patrick Mahomes has catapulted this franchise to new heights.

With Smith and Reid together, they were always in the post-season mix, but Mahomes has transformed them into the team to beat year after year.

The Mahomes and Kelce combination has much to do with their successes, but Andy Reid and Mahomes are also a powerful force as well.

Since Reid turned the offense over to the Mahomes in 2018, they have been virtually unstoppable together.

In just over five seasons together, counting the current campaign, the Reid/Mahomes combination has accumulated a winning percentage of .802.

Their winning ways should come as no surprise given Reid’s track record as a head coach and the talent of Mahomes and that offense, but what they are achieving to date is truly remarkable.

Mahomes and Reid have the highest winning percentage for a head coach-QB duo in NFL history, with a minimum of 80 games together.

That’s above some pretty exclusive company, like Tom Brady and Bill Belichick with the New England Patriots (.774) and the Green Bay Packers’ Vince Lombardi and Bart Starr (.770).

The duo’s they’re above were together a lot longer than Reid and Mahomes have been, but there’s no reason to believe both of them will not be working together for years to come and continue to be the team to catch.

Since Mahomes was named the starting QB in 2018, the Chiefs have won a dozen games or more over each regular season campaign while losing no more than five in a single campaign.

They’ve made it to five successive AFC Championship games, won two Super Bowls and made it to another.

Amazingly though, despite all of his successes, Reid has only been named NFL Coach of the Year once, in 2002, when he guided the Philadelphia Eagles to a 12-4 season, losing in the NFC Championship Game that year to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (27-10).

As for Mahomes, he’s been named league MVP twice, won the title of Super Bowl MVP on two occasions, is a five-time Pro Bowler and a two-time All-Pro.

The two of them don’t just have a great connection regarding football, though; they’re a pretty good comedy team as well.

Mahomes encouraged Reid to do commercials, and the two of them were front and centre for numerous State Farm ads.

Their wits and talent have been truly special over the years.
