Wide receiver has no future with Kansas City Chiefs, says NFL expert

Kansas City has made their first moves in the offseason, securing Marquise Brown to a one-year deal from free agency.

Brown is a much-welcomed addition to the Kansas City Chiefs wide receiving core.

The poor chemistry between Patrick Mahomes and his receivers was obvious, especially at the start.

The Chiefs group dropped the most passes of any NFL team last season, totaling 25 drops.

So, the plan of action was to address the problem to be in the best shape to secure the ‘three-peat’.

Brown is a Chief

The Baltimore Ravens 2019 first-round pick joins from free agency after being released by the Arizona Cardinals.

Brown has only managed to achieve one 1000-yard receiving season in his career.

However, his speed makes him a crucial asset for Mahomes.

Marquez Valdes-Scantling was cut before free agency to save $13 million in cap space.

Mecole Hardman has joined the open market after catching the Super Bowl-winning touchdown.

One player who has surprised many people to have not been released is Kadarius Toney.

Toney was one of the main culprits when it came to the dropped passes issue.

Mix that with the offside penalty call against the Buffalo Bills in week 14 – it has not been a good year.

Toney has no future

Mike Florio said on NBC Pro Football Talk that he is shocked that Toney remains a Chiefs: “I’m surprised Toney is still on the team, I really am.

“I don’t know if they made a promise they’ll try trade him, I feel like after the Patriots games… it felt like the last straw.

“Then he was ‘injured’ the rest of the year and he came out and said he was not injured, felt like it was the Chiefs’ way of suspending him without pay.

“I feel like they are trying to offload him and they are hoping someone will offer them something.”

It seems like there is no future for Toney in Kansas according to Mike Florio.

Additionally, the 25-year-old is under contract starting in 2024 and will be a free agent in one year.

Do they keep Toney and hope he has a progressive 2024 season?

The intentions are seemingly clear, Toney will likely be sporting another jersey next year. With the addition of Marquise Brown, it looks like the end of the road for Toney’s Kansas chapter.
