Zack Martin built a fine career with the Dallas Cowboys and became one of the best at his position in the team’s history.
With each passing week, 2024 proves to be one of the most important years in the Dallas era.
Explicit speeches and those that are a little more hidden, important players entering the last years of their contracts, the lack of moves to keep the pillars of the franchise and so on…
Even so, Jerry Jones remains confident for a season that promises to be all-in.
This year, disappointment is not an option. It’s win or win.

Possible indications that 2025 could be a rebuild
The organisation still has unfinished business with three of their main stars: Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb and Micah Parsons.
There is interest in keeping them, but the front office is more interested in results at the moment.
If the quarterback doesn’t get a contract extension, he’ll test free agency next year. In that case, Dallas will have to ‘start over’ and rebuild its roster around a new signal-caller.
You can’t forget the presence of Zack Martin, the voice of experience on the offensive line. He’s entering the final year of his contract.
The Cowboys selected young offensive linemen in the Draft, but the veteran will set the tone for the unit. Tyron Smith was not re-signed and became a reinforcement for the New York Jets.
2024 could be Zach Martin’s last year in the NFL
Thinking ahead to September, the squad has already entered the mandatory minicamp phase.
The OL will play an important role off the field, as they will have to mentor the rookies and teach them how to deal with their initial years in the league.
Martin will turn 34 in November and has no idea about his future in Dallas – yet, at least.
On Wednesday, the player gave an interview to Michael Gehlken, a reporter for the Dallas Morning News, and acknowledged that last season wasn’t his best and that he can still play at a high level.
“I don’t think I played honestly up to my standard last year, really,” said. “That’s another reason why I want to finish this year strong is I think I can play at a high level still. I think I may have come up a little bit short last year. I’ve got a little chip on my shoulder to get back to that consistent, kind of dominant player that I’ve been.”
In 2023 he took up a holdout and missed most of the practices.
What’s more, he doesn’t excludes the idea of retiring from the game: “I’m not saying 100 percent, but I think it’s definitely in the realm of possibilities,” claimed.
“And that’s one thing I don’t want to do. For myself, I don’t want to be thinking, ‘Oh, this is it. This is it.’ I want to stay in the moment, and I want to play the best that I can play at this point and be the best right guard this team needs on a weekly basis. And then after the season, we’ll figure out what’s going on.”
There’s still a chance the Cowboys will renew him, because they won’t want to avoid Martins’ void years considering they still have three stars on the team who need to be paid.
