FS1 expert happy with the Dallas Cowboys ‘rolling the dice’ on Dak Prescott and risk losing him in 2025

Jerry Jones has much to ponder in the next coming weeks as the Dallas Cowboys have three cornerstone players requiring new contracts, but one expert believes they should take a gamble on their quarterback.

America’s Team has backed itself into a corner because of its delayed approach when settling extensions with their biggest hits to the salary cap.

The Dallas Cowboys are entering contract years for their star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb and veteran Dak Prescott.

Lamb has shown his cards as he persists with a holdout to leverage a new deal

Lamb has been absent from the franchise’s mandatory minicamp, which demonstrates he is not entering through the franchise’s doors before getting a new contract.

Defensive edge Micah Parsons is one year behind his teammate’s timeline but is eligible for a new deal.

Moreover, the 24-year-old is set to become the highest-paid defensive star and overtake Nick Bosa’s enormous deal when the time comes.

Yet, their quarterback remains unsure if he is set to play on a contract year.

The Dallas Cowboys have not engaged in any talks with their largest cap hit of 2024, as he is set to cost the franchise $55.4 million.

Jerry Jones has missed the sensible window to extend Dak Prescott

If Jerry Jones were to extend the 2023 MVP runner-up, the sensible time would have been before free agency had commenced.

The franchise could have been able to restructure his contract and open up vital cap space to sign the players they need to reach an NFC Championship.

Nonetheless, the front office was not interested in that solution and now must decide how to spend their money.

The Cowboys could risk letting their signal-caller hit the open market as an unrestricted free agent.

Furthermore, talks of Prescott blowing the QB market through the roof and earning the first $60 million APY have been uttered.

NFL expert suggests the franchise should risk losing Prescott to free agency

FS1 expert Nick Wright believes the franchise should take a punt on losing Prescott and sign Lamb and Parsons now.

“I think obviously you re-sign Micah Parsons, he is one of the five best defensive players in the sport. Obviously, you re-sign CeeDee Lamb he is one of the five best receivers in the sport,” Wright said on The Herd podcast

“They are both in their early to mid-twenties, you drafted them with first-round picks. They have exceeded expectations. I’m fine with the Cowboys rolling the dice on losing Dak Prescott a year from now.”

The Dallas Cowboys must crunch the numbers and finalize a perfect plan to address their offseason predicament.

Cowboys are approaching their summer break and key situations remain unresolved

Preseason is swiftly approaching and the summer break is upon us imminently, so, it would be wise they lock in CeeDee Lamb to not delay the process any longer.

Furthermore, the golden moment to extend Prescott has now passed and the franchise may make him earn his mega contract through postseason success.

NFL Insider Tom Pelissero has stated the coaching staff wants the Louisana native to be the long-term future.

However, Mike McCarthy is entering a contract year, therefore, his wishes may be irrelevant this time next year.
