One of the biggest inevitable offseason deals has finally concluded and this will have a huge impact on Jerry Jones and the front office regarding CeeDee Lamb.

The Dallas Cowboys have been knee-deep in contractual situations with three key players and CeeDee Lamb has just received the green light.

Before the NFL Draft, Jerry Jones was asked about his persistence in holding off on deals with Lamb, Dak Prescott, and Micah Parsons.

Jerry Jones explains the reason for not extending CeeDee Lamb before the NFL Draft

The 81-year-old owner said the franchise was ‘waiting for more leaves to fall’, that was the expression he used.

Therefore, one of the ‘leaves’ has fallen as Justin Jefferson signed a blockbuster extension with the Minnesota Vikings.

Jefferson has put pen to paper on a four-year deal worth $140 million with $110 million fully guaranteed.

As a result, Jefferson has become the first wide receiver to earn $35 million APY making him the highest-paid non-QB in NFL history, per Tom Pelissero.

More importantly from a Cowboys perspective, the deal could be setting the ceiling or floor for the money that Lamb will be demanding.

Reports have assumed that Jones will propose a figure that will slot in just underneath the Minnesota Vikings receiver.

Jefferson’s deal means that Lamb and his representatives can now approach the negotiation table with a figure in mind.

The 2023 First-Team All-Pro may try and bargain for more than the record-breaker.

Lamb has been absent from the team’s OTAs since they started and will not return until he is presented with a new contract.

Cowboys expert slams Jerry Jones for his hesitation and believes there are ‘no more excuses’

Cowboys expert Mike Fisher has reacted to the news surrounding Jefferson and has taken a dig at the Dallas owner’s previous phrase.

“Now, the Jones family, their reasoning and excuses, or whatever you want to call it, on why they have waited and waited and waited on giving CeeDee Lamb 30 million dollars… now that number theoretically just went up,” the Cowboys beat writer said via his YouTube channel.

“The Cowboys are out of excuses. They talk about waiting for ‘leaves to fall’, well this is a gigantic leaf, the Justin Jefferson deal.

“No more excuses and no more reasons to not accelerate their conversations with CeeDee Lamb.”

Jefferson’s deal will be the catalyst for Lamb’s talk with the franchise

The Cowboys expert now believes that the talks about Lamb’s extension will start to speed up because of the ramifications of the latest deal.

Jefferson has got the ball rolling for multiple wide receivers around the league and the Jones family is now out of excuses.

Ultimately, Lamb and his agents will have a ballpark figure in mind but the digits may have increased with the recent news.
