Shannon Sharpe says Dak Prescott has bad deal compared to former Dallas Cowboys star

Dak Prescott has endured an offseason standoff with Jerry Jones about his expiring deal.

Jones seems satisfied about letting his franchise quarterback play out the rest of his contract.

Therefore, Prescott can eat up $55 million on the cap hit and then hit free agency in 2025.

The situation had divided opinion among fans and reporters.

Cowboys could draft a QB and seal Prescott’s fate

Furthermore, NFL Insider Adam Schefter has reported this week the Cowboys are a ‘sleeper team’ to draft at quarterback this month.

If they did so, this would be rather telling about the fate of Prescott in Dallas after the season.

Dallas Cowboys v Washington Commanders

One Cowboys reporter, Dave Helman, believes America’s Team ‘will cave’ and give Prescott a deal come 2025.

Shannon Sharpe has recently commented on the unresolved situation in Dallas.

Sharpe sees no difference between Prescott and Romo

He thinks that Prescott’s predecessor, Tony Romo, highlights how you did not have to win much to receive a big contract with the Cowboys.

In a recent interview with Cam Newton, Sharpe said: “I know a guy who played quarterback, who didn’t nearly win as much. Dak (Prescott) has probably won more playoff games than him and he never had to worry about a contract.

“All I know is Tony Romo was made the highest-paid quarterback in football, with no Super Bowls, no NFC Championship games, no First-Team All-Pro, no Second-Team All-Pro, he ain’t ever have to worry about a contract.”

Romo only managed to win two playoff games in his entire Cowboys career as a starter for 12 seasons.

The ex-Cowboys received two six-year extensions in Dallas after achieving no more than the current quarterback.

This contradiction from Jerry Jones is what has many people confused.

Prescott has achieved the same as Tony Romo

Moreover, the 30-year-old is coming off his best career in a Cowboys Jersey and was second in the MVP rankings.

Sharpe was mistaken saying Romo had not reached Second-Team All-Pro status.

Both quarterbacks have achieved that feat and have made Pro Bowl appearances.

So why did Romo get preferential treatment compared to Prescott at the moment?

Only Jerry Jones will know the answer after nearly three decades without an NFC Championship appearance.

Ultimately, the 81-year-old owner seems fed up with the lack of success and could turn to a rebuild next year.
