‘The Cowboys will cave’… Insider explains why Jerry Jones will back down over Dak Prescott

Dak Prescott and the Cowboys front office have given no confident updates surrounding the franchise quarterback’s contract.

Many people assumed Prescott could have been made the highest-paid signal caller in the NFL.

He enters the final year of his current deal and cannot be traded or tagged as agreed in his contract.

Therefore, if no extension is agreed, Prescott will be a free agent come 2025.

Prescott and Jones are in a standoff

Ian Rapoport said there was a ‘mutual’ understanding between both parties about the situation.

Jerry Jones has stated on record that the 30-year-old is one quarterback who has never won a ring but can do so.

Ultimately, Prescott holds the leverage but Jones has stood his ground and seems to be prepared to take on the $55 million cap hit.

On the NFL talk show Speak, they discussed what the future looks like for Prescott.

Lead presenter, Emmanuel Acho, presented the question: “Will this be Dak Prescott’s last season in Dallas?”

TV hosts unconvinced by Prescott

LeSean McCoy and Joy Taylor were convinced that this was the final season for Prescott as a Cowboy.

The reason was he cannot get America’s Team over the hump of the poor playoff record.

In Prescott’s eight seas as the quarterback, he has not suffered a losing season.

Additionally, he has just come off his first All-Pro season in the NFL.

However, his 2-5 postseason record is an alarming stumbling block on his CV.

One of the reporters who did believe that Dak Prescott would be in Dallas come the 2025 season was Dave Helman.

Prescott benefits from Cousins’ move

Helman believed the Kirk Cousins offseason move has solidified why Prescott will be staying.

Cousins signed a four-year deal worth $180 million after coming off a season-ending Achilles injury.

Helman claimed this is very telling: “Answer me this quickly, has Kirk Cousins achieved more in his career than Dak Prescott?”

The answer is no, which was echoed by the other hosts.

‘The Cowboys will cave’

The FOX reporter proceeded to explain: “What just happened to him (Cousins)? He tore his Achilles five years older than Dak Prescott and signed a major extension because that is the value of quality quarterback play in the NFL, regardless of what happens once the postseason starts.

“The reason I think he stays in Dallas… I think the Cowboys will cave. I think the Cowboys will at some point recognize ‘Oh it’s scary out there in no quarterback land’. What did Arthur Blank (Falcons’ Owner) just do? He suffered through three years of miserable quarterback play after Matt Ryan left and paid Kirk Cousins who has not accomplished as much as Dak Prescott.”

Helman implies that Jerry Jones will be fearful of having to completely rebuild.

Being the most premium position, the quarterback market is automatically very high. Meaning, the Cowboys are going to have to pay big for another established quarterback.

Will the Cowboys feel forced to pay Prescott? Time will only tell.
