The Dallas Cowboys have started making moves in the free agency market but still have one of the biggest contract situations to resolve in the NFL.
Dak Prescott is about to swallow up $60 million in cap space as he enters the final year of his deal.
This is the second biggest cap hit in the NFL behind the Cleveland Browns’ Deshaun Watson.
Jerry Jones is unsure of what to do
Jerry Jones and the Cowboys front office seem to be unclear on what their plan is for Prescott.
Are they going to extend Prescott or let him play out his deal?
If they were confident in their quarterback’s ability then they would have extended Prescott and freed up cap space.
However, it seems transparent that they are not confident in his ability to lead this team for the foreseeable future.

He boasts an underwhelming 2-5 postseason record, an unhappy record.
America’s Team has won 12 plus regular season games in three consecutive years but capitulate in the big moments.
Prescott holds all the cards
Rumors emerged that Prescott if extended, could be given a $60 million contract.
Despite this, there has been no movement from either side and both parties wait for the other to show their cards.
Prescott said he was confident a deal would be reached when interviewed two weeks ago.
Jerry Jones would not want to admit but it is universally known that Prescott has the leverage in this situation.
His wage is limiting the amount of free agency money at the Cowboys’ disposal.
Additionally, he cannot be traded or franchise tagged.
Dallas are terrified of Dak’s contract
Colin Cowherd spoke on The Herd podcast about the radio silence regarding the quarterbacks’ contract situation.
John Middlekauff, former NFL scout, believes the Cowboys are scared about the extension: “I think they are a little terrified to give him a huge extension.
“They can say whatever they want and Jerry never stops talking… but their actions are telling you everything. They are hesitant but they may end up doing it.”
The Dallas Cowboys are stuck in a horrible situation where they feel they may be forced to extend a player whose performance is not deserving of one
Prescott did produce his best numbers season in the NFL and finished runner-up in the MVP race.
If they are to persist with Prescott as their quarterback, they will be forced to pay big and will be doing so begrudgingly.
