Mike McCarthy enters the final year of his contract in 2024 with an uncertain future on the table.

Both he and his quarterback Dak Prescott, are flirting with the real possibility of searching for a new team in 2025.

Despite performing superbly in the regular season, McCarthy has fallen flat on his face in the playoffs

‘Don’t feel bad for me’

In a recent statement, the 60-year-old said: “Don’t feel bad for me I am in a great spot, it is not an issue.

“I have the same approach every year, that’s the way I’ve gone about it.”

Ultimately, the Dallas head coach has stated he is not searching for any pity with the situation he currently resides in.

Moreover, McCarthy knows anything less than a Super Bowl appearance will see him clean out his desk.

Shannon Sharpe spoke about the Cowboys coach’s latest comments on the Nightcap podcast.

NFC Wild Card Playoffs - Dallas Cowboys v Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Sharpe refuses to show any sympathy

The legendary tight end claimed no one should feel sympathy for McCarthy.

Sharpe said: “Ocho, I don’t feel sorry for a person that put themself in that situation.

“You can’t put yourself in a situation and then ask people to feel sorry for you, the situation you’ve put yourself in.”

When taking the head coaching role of America’s Team in 2020, McCarthy knew what this would entail.

Furthermore, there are high expectations that come with the most popular team in America.

They have failed to reach an NFC Championship in 29 years and are starving for success.

His predecessor, Jason Garett, also failed to bring the Cowboys to the promised land and paid the price with his job.

Now, McCarthy could be looking at the same fate if he does not give Jerry Jones the success.

‘His hands are tied’

Fellow Nightcap host Chad Ochocinco, did have some sympathy for the head coach.

He announced: “You gotta understand what he has to deal with, he’s powerless, his hands are tied behind his back.

“Yes, he’s the coach of the Dallas Cowboys, but he can only do so much and really had no say so.

“I feel bad for him.”

The two former players had contrasting opinions on the feeling people have toward the Super Bowl XLV winner.

Before taking the job, McCarthy knew that Jerry Jones was the face of the franchise and had been drowned out.

It seems like all or nothing for the Dallas HC, the current offseason has been a poor start to an imperative season for him.
