The Dallas Cowboys rushing core will have a familiar face return for 2024 but Rico Dowdle has felt the need to speak out on social media.

Jerry Jones was keen to draft a running back in the NFL Draft but was left alone at the aisle after Jonathon Brooks was stolen by the Carolina Panthers.

Moreover, the NFC South franchise traded up to steal the highest-graded running back on the Cowboys’ board.

It was reported yesterday that Ezekiel Elliott would be returning to Dallas pending a physical.

Ezekiel Elliott signs a 3 million dollar deal after a rough draft for the Cowboys

The three-time Pro Bowler joins the franchise in an unprecedented situation, by will sign a one-year deal worth up to $3 million.

Talks between the franchise and Elliott had taken place before the NFL Draft on Thursday but nothing concrete was agreed.

However, the Cowboys’ draft plan did not work out as they had hoped.

So, they have accelerated the talks with the former employee and have an established rusher in place for 2024.

Comments and digs have been aimed at the Cowboys’ rushing department which includes the likes of Royce Freeman, Rico Dowdle and Deuce Vaughn.

Cowboy Nation unconvinced by the addition of Elliott

Despite the addition of the former NFL Rushing Yards Leader (2016/2018) to the roster, some fans are unsatisfied with the quality of the core.

As it stands, Elliott and Dowdle are predicted to be taking most of the running back snaps for the Cowboys in 2024.

During his lone season in New England, ‘Zeke’ was used as a short-yardage and goal-to-go weapon.

Therefore, he can expect a similar role here as the jury is still out on his longevity.

Dowdle will look to be the rusher who has the explosive plays down the stretch and reaps the rewards of the new offensive line.

Rico Dowdle makes his mentality clear heading into the 2024 season

Nonetheless, the 25-year-old has seen a lack of faith by some segments of Cowboy Nation in him to fulfill a role on the offense.

Yesterday, he took to X and posted: “Me v Me.”

Dowdle has been listening to the criticism from the fan base and has shown he will be battling himself to reach his true potential.

In 2023, after consecutive seasons plagued with injuries, Dowdle had his first productive season as the second-string rusher behind Tony Pollard.

He ran for 361 yards and averaged 4.1 yards off 89 carries.
