Skip Bayless reacts to quiet day one of free agency for Dallas Cowboys, takes shot at Tony Pollard

There is no denying the Dallas Cowboys are in desperate need of adding star talent to their roaster whilst also fixing the run offense and defense.

The Cowboys under the guidance of Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb produced one of the best passing offenses in the league.

On the other hand, their run defense ranked 15th in rushing yards per game.

Fixing the run game

Jerry Jones and company did not use the franchise tag on starter Tony Pollard for consecutive seasons, so he joined free agency.

Reports suggested the Cowboys had not closed the door on bringing Pollard back.

However, that door was slammed in their face by the Tennessee Titans.

The 26-year-old signed a three-year deal with the Titans and opted for the bigger payday.

Other running backs that America’s Team were reported to be keeping tabs on were also snatched up.

Saquon Barkley joined the Cowboys’ NFC East rivals the Philadelphia Eagles.

De’Andre Swift left the Eagles on a venture back to the NFC North with the Chicago Bears.

The Las Vegas Raiders Josh Jacobs also was a free agent and chose to join Swift in the NFC North but in Green Bay.

Furthermore, with running backs being a premium position and surprisingly very low paid, they are scooped off the market within hours.

Limited options

Reports suggest the Dallas Cowboys are looking for a rusher who fits into their budget.

Additionally, options like Zack Moss and Austin Ekeler were also snatched off free agency as the opening day progressed.

The only big names that remain in the running back circle are 2020 First-Team All-Pro Derrick Henry and Aaron Jones.

Although he is heavily linked to a move to the Baltimore Ravens after their man Gus Edwards joined the Los Angeles Chargers.

It seems as if the Dallas Cowboys have either been asleep at the wheel or this is a strategy for the long term.

Skip Bayless unimpressed

Nevertheless, yesterday did not amuse Cowboys fan Skip Bayless on X, he posted: “As news of free-agent signings explodes around him, Jerry Jones is waiting … waiting … waiting … waiting … waiting … waiting … for the draft.”

Additionally, the Undisputed host took a shot at Pollard: “I wish Tony Pollard well in Nashville … but I won’t miss him in Dallas. Just wasn’t the same after the injury.”

The draft could be the exact thinking for the Cowboys front office.

Are they going to turn their attention to the draft and land a hungry, explosive rookie there?

Very few options remain for the Cowboys and potential targets have found new homes.

Cowboys fans can only hope that the executives have a plan up their sleeve.
