RGIII has a clear message for Dallas Cowboys over Dak Prescott

Jerry Jones has made his stance on Dak Prescott clear that he is dissatisfied with his postseason production, which is why a contract has not been issued yet.

The 30-year-old has been the signal-caller for the Dallas Cowboys since 2016 after replacing an injured Tony Romo.

Dak Prescott’s excellent performances forced Romo to remain cold on the sidelines as he went on and earned 2016 NFL Rookie of the Year.

Prescott and the Cowboys cannot break the postseason curse after numerous years

However, despite his regular season success, the postseason seems to be his curse. Prescott produced his worst game of 2023 in their showing against the Green Bay Packers.

Prescott threw for 403 yards but produced two interceptions with one returned for a pick-six. However, most of Prescott’s yardage was logged in the final quarter when the Packers were out of sight.

A garbage time flurry of 16 points against the Packers B team could not gloss over the performance.

Overall, Prescott has a 2-5 playoff record in eight years as a starter. Additionally, the team failed to make the playoffs in 2019 and 2017 under him. The franchise also struggled to reach the playoffs in 2020 but Prescott suffered a season-ending injury in week 5.

Factions of analysts and fans have been vocal in their willingness to move on from Prescott in 2025 when he becomes a free agent.

Former Heisman Trophy winner feels the Cowboys need to show Prescott some ‘love’

However, others believe there are no better options out there and the Cowboys should extend the three-time Pro Bowler.

“Dallas, what better option do you have out there than Dak Prescott, who played an MVP level last year,” Rober Griffin III questioned.

“I know you want him to be successful in the playoffs, I know you want him to win when it matters, but if you’re not going to show that you love him, then you are not going to get the best out of your team. He’s their (the Cowboys) leader, so if you don’t back up their leader, who’s there?”

The Dallas Cowboys have multiple contractual disputes to settle in the coming weeks/months. CeeDee Lamb and Micah Parsons are fishing for new deals, which could see record-breaking figures attached.

Stephen Jones has been saving money for huge extensions, is Prescott one of them?

Stephen Jones stated that the front office has been ‘smart’ to limit free agency spending to save money to pay their stars.

Tom Pelissero highlighted that the Cowboys’ coaching staff is confident in Dak Prescott and that he is the quarterback they want for the future.

Additionally, the NFL Insider reported that the Louisana native is respected as a person behind the scenes.

Players and staff are keen to see Prescott remain on America’s Team’s roster for the coming seasons, however, Jerry Jones will have the final say.

The 81-year-old has not ruled out the possibility of letting the quarterback play out his contract in 2024.
