With every passing day free agency creeps closer and the Dallas Cowboys will need to be all hands on deck come March 13th.

After falling short yet again in the playoffs, America’s Team will need to bring in talented bodies to increase their chances of a shot at Super Bowl glory.

Apart from the NFL Draft, the free agency market is the goldmine to secure talent.

Free agency is perfect for injecting experienced NFL players into the team.

Fixing the run game

Jerry Jones mentioned in an exclusive interview that the Cowboys need to ‘run the ball’ better.

Powerhouse running back Derrick Henry is destined to be a free agent after the Tennessee Titans agreed not to franchise tag their star.

Rumors have circulated that the Cowboys could be a landing destination for Henry in the offseason.

Although the Baltimore Ravens are the bookie favorites to land the 2019 and 2020 NFL rushing leader.

Josh Jacobs is another rusher who will be joining the free-agency trade.

The Las Vegas Raiders will not place the franchise tag on their player.

Only two seasons ago, the 26-year-old was a First-Team All-Pro after rushing for 1,653 yards.

Could the Cowboys be a landing spot?

One of the other elusive rushing figures looking for a new franchise to call home is Saquon Barkley.

The dynamic running back is a threat not only with his feet but his hands.

Barkley has notched up over 2,100 receiving yards and 5,211 yards with his feet.

The two-time Pro Bowler would be a hybrid talent for Dak Prescott to utilize in an already-established Cowboys offense.

Chris Broussard suggests on The First Things First Podcast that this would be a smart option if they do not overpay: “I wouldn’t break the bank for Saquon Barkley. Don’t overpay him sure, but if you could get him for a good price…”

Fellow host Nick Wright was less convinced by the option and thought the Cowboys should target the draft: “The idea that the Dallas Cowboys should target a high price big name running back is the most ridiculous thing I can imagine.

The question we are asking is, with their limited resources, should the Dallas Cowboys give out the biggest contract to a running back, my answer is, this would be ridiculous. They should draft a guy.”

Re-signing Tony Pollard is an option

The Cowboys have many avenues that they can explore to push their running game to the next level.

Tony Pollard is also a viable option to bring back as he will hit free agency.

Stealing Barkley would be a massive blow for a divisional rival and could return to haunt the New York Giants.

Where the Cowboys’ heads are at in the coming days will become clear, at the moment they have got bigger fish to fry at the moment – Dak Prescott’s contract.
