Colin Cowherd lists all the ‘breaks’ that the Kansas City Chiefs had in 2023

The Kansas City Chiefs became the eighth team to win back-to-back Super Bowls in February but one NFL expert believes the job of the ‘three-peat’ will be near impossible.

Patrick Mahomes and his star-studded unit have rightfully earned the opportunity to embark on a potential history-making season.

The three-peat has never been seen before in the NFL but Steve Spagnuolo explained how Mahomes spoke about them doing it after beating the San Francisco 49ers over three months ago.

The Chiefs managed to win another ring after their offense was out of sync

What made the Chiefs’ repeat last year even more impressive was they managed to break through the adversity on offense.

Moreover, the offense lacked noticeable chemistry throughout the regular season, which was evident in their league-leading 25 dropped passes.

Their woes saw them suffer a devastating loss on Christmas day against the Las Vegas Raiders but they managed to use this as motivation.

The defeat clicked them into gear and they proceeded to go undefeated for the remainder of the season.

Throughout the offseason, the debate has raged on whether the Chiefs can go where no other NFL team has been before.

Tom Brady claimed that the margin for error is ‘razor-thin’ and explained there is a reason why no franchise has achieved the feat.

NFL expert believes the Chiefs were fortunate with several ‘breaks’ in 2023

NFL expert Colin Cowherd believes the Chiefs stumbled across several ‘breaks’ during their quest to Super Bowl LVIII.

On The Herd podcast, his first ‘break’ was when Joe Burrow got injured against the Baltimore Ravens during the Week 11 matchup.

Burrow has proved to be a bogey team for the Chiefs and the Cincinnati Bengals are 3-1 with him as their starter. Unfortunately, his season-ending hand injury left the Bengals without their star player and they missed the playoffs.

Secondly, Cowherd believes that the AFC South was ‘really down’. “The Raiders were a mess, Russell Wilson in Denver, Herbert with the wrong coach,” he explained on the podcast.

Despite the Chiefs winning their division, they finished with their worst record (11-6) since the dynamic duo of Andy Reid and Mahomes emerged.

The Chiefs will be expecting a greater challenge with the Raiders adding talent in free agency, the Denver Broncos rebuilding with an exciting new quarterback Bo Nix, and the L.A. Chargers starting their anticipated tenure with Jim Harbaugh.

The Miami Dolphins having to battle abnormal elements was another ‘break’

Cowherd then explained how the Chiefs’ Wildcard clash at Arrowhead Stadium in record-breaking freezing temperatures was a ‘break’.

Furthermore, the Chiefs faced off against the Sunshine State franchise the Miami Dolphins in a temperature that would have been gruelling.

Kansas City comfortably saw off the warm-weathered Dolphins and earned their spot in the Divisional Round.

Finally, the Chiefs were fortunate when 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw tore his Achilles coming off the bench in the Super Bowl final.

Ultimately, the Chiefs would go on to win a close-fought contest with an overtime score by Mecole Hardman.

Cowherd believes the Chiefs deserved their crown but does not back the ‘three-peat’

The NFL expert does reinstate that the Chiefs ‘earned’ their successive Super Bowl ring but does not back them to achieve the glorious ‘three-peat’.

The Chiefs will understand that the odds are stacked against them and they must be weary about the growing threat within the division.
