One would assume that having an easier schedule in any sporting calendar is always beneficial, however, Mike Florio believes this could be a hindrance for the Kansas City Chiefs.
Before the full schedules were released on Wednesday, the Chiefs had already mentally checked in for their opening two games.
Patrick Mahomes and his crew are set to take on the Baltimore Ravens and the Cincinnati Bengals at Arrowhead Stadium – 10 days apart.
The Chiefs will have to tick off their biggest threats for the AFC crown at the beginning of the season when form is irrelevant.
The Chiefs look to avoid a repeat of 2023 when they host the Ravens on the opening day
Andy Reid’s red machine started slowly last season with an opening-day loss to the Detroit Lions. However, in our 2024 season prediction, we believe lighting does not strike twice and the Chiefs beat the Ravens.
Nonetheless, after the pair of blockbuster opening matches, the Chiefs do not experience a multi-game run of extreme difficulty.

Most franchises would be looking at this as a blessing, an opportunity to improve their record and tally as many victories as possible.
Mike Florio questions if an easier stretch of games could be a problem for the Chiefs
Yet, on Pro Football Talk, Mike Florio questioned if a lack of a ‘gauntlet’ run could be a serious problem.
Chris Simms believed it was favorable that the Chiefs had avoided a tough stretch of games on the road to achieve a ‘three-peat’, but Florio begged to differ.
“Is it favorable though? You kind of want that to get them focused. If they are prone to any type of distraction to play with their food from time to time. If they don’t have that gauntlet they don’t hit that extreme, ‘We got to get locked in one week at a time’, it’s good practice for the playoffs,” Florio claimed on NBC.
“If I’m Andy Reid then I would like to be able to point to a stretch where it’s like, ‘We gotta be ready for this’.”
The NFL expert insists that it would be beneficial to have a challenging run so the franchise can be ‘locked in’ before the playoffs.
Kansas City went on a colossal run to the Super Bowl after defeat to their rival
The Chiefs did not have a gauntlet run as such last year, but they had a devastating defeat that lit the fuse beneath them.
On Christmas Day, the Las Vegas Raiders stunned the Chiefs with a defensive onslaught where they sacked Mahomes four times and picked him off.
Ultimately, this loss spurred the Chiefs to go undefeated for the remainder of the regular season and through the playoffs.
Furthermore, if the Chiefs are to achieve the ‘three-peat’, then they may have to experience another bitter defeat deep into the season.
