‘Great opportunity’… Derrick Henry breaks silence on Dallas Cowboys, whether they called

The Dallas Cowboys missed out on the opportunity to try to tease Derrick Henry to Dallas, instead, he landed in the AFC.

Henry was one of, if not the best running back free agents available on the open market.

The Baltimore Ravens did not pick up the 30-year-old until the second day of the ‘legal tampering’ window.

Therefore, Jerry Jones had enough time to pick up the phone and try to make the necessary calls to the player and agent.

Missed opportunities

With running backs having some of the shortest careers in the NFL, Henry is likely looking for one last payday.

After eight years as the starting rusher for the Tennessee Titans, Henry was a free agent.

A Super Bowl ring is the only accolade he desires.

Additionally, the Florida native has earned First-Team All-Pro honors in 2020, and been the NFL Offensive Player of the Year and the NFL rushing leader in 2019 and 2020.

Ironically, Cowboys starter Tony Pollard moved to the Titans in free agency, so Henry could have replaced him in Dallas.

Furthermore, it was more or less confirmed Henry would be departing the Titans in the regular season.

Both parties mutually agreed to part ways and the franchise tag was not used.

So, the Cowboys’ front office had more than enough time to prepare a deal for when they could approach ‘The King’.

‘That’s where I stay in the offseason’

Henry appeared on Mad Dog Radio and addressed the rumors about the Cowboys: “The Cowboys never called at all… That’s where I stay in the offseason.

“I’m kind of on the back end of my career and that’s a great organization. It would’ve been a great opportunity, but I’m thankful that I ended up here in Baltimore.”

During the offseason Henry stays in the city of Dallas, he knows the area and is comfortable in the environment.

Moreover, he waxes lyrical about the franchise and shows he would have been keen on approach.

Jerry Jones never called once and Henry is now in Maryland.

Apparently, the budget has been a key factor in Jones’ decision-making.

Will the Cowboys live to regret that decision, especially with the limited options now?
