The Kansas City Chiefs are piecing together their roster in the offseason and the picture as the third-string running back remains unclear.
Brett Veach was active during the NFL Draft and traded up for his first two selections.
Patrick Mahomes has a new deep-threat weapon in Xavier Worthy and could have blindside protection with Kingsley Suamataia.
The situation with the two running back spots is crystal clear for the fans.
Pacheco is set to lead the line and Clyde Edwards-Helaire will support him
Isiah Pacheco will be continuing his role as the starting rusher in 2024. He will be looking to break the 1,000-yard marker after producing 935 rushing yards in 2023.
Despite Clyde Edwards-Helaire now having the duty of backing up Pacheco, he was a free agent before penning a new deal with the franchise in early April.

The player who would be second-string to Pacheco remained unresolved in the early offseason.
J.K. Dobbins was in the building talking with the Chiefs on the day that CEH signed a one-year deal.
Former quarterback Chase Daniel believes Dobbins only served as leverage for CEH to sign a deal promptly.
Out of fear that the Chiefs were happy to move on from him and pursue other targets.
Brett Veach is clear that the role of RB3 is available for multiple players
The Chiefs need to find their third-string rusher which may not be important now but could be depending on injuries in 2024.
Chiefs reporter Pete Sweeney posted on X: “Sounds to me from our media here with Chiefs GM Brett Veach, it’s going to be a ‘Royal Rumble’ type battle for RB3 with Keontay Ingram, Deneric Prince, Emani Bailey and Carson Steele, among others.”
Although it is not guaranteed that CEH has been given the automatic right for RB2, the Chiefs would not have brought him back for no reason.
Unless there is a significant drop-off in training camp, the rest must battle out to be his replacement.
Furthermore, the Chiefs have multiple candidates who will be jostling for the responsibility.
Louis Rees-Zammit will have a chance to stake his claim at RB3
Another name to monitor is the International Players Pathway graduate Louis Rees-Zammit.
The former rugby star has been registered as a versatile player who can play wide receiver and running back.
In addition, he could have a role as a special teams kick returner with the new rules in play for 2024.
Ultimately, numerous players will back themselves for the role if CEH is dubbed RB2.
