Former quarterback explains sneaky tactic the Chiefs used to sign Clyde Edwards-Helaire

The Kansas City Chiefs have signed their backup rusher for Isiah Pacheco on Tuesday but was there a devious tactic executed?

Clyde Edwards-Helaire has put pen to paper and resigned with the Kansas City Chiefs.

He will return for a fifth season in the state of Missouri and will be a part of the illustrious three-peat hunt.

However, this has come as a surprise to many fans after the reports yesterday.

Dobbins shown around the Chiefs’ building

Free agent and former Baltimore Raven, J.K. Dobbins, was in the Chiefs building. The Ravens have released him after multiple setbacks through long-term injuries.

Reports confirmed the Chiefs were hosting Dobbins and many fans speculated it was a matter of time before signing confirmation.

If healthy, the 25-year-old would have a brilliant support rusher to Pacheco, but it is a big ‘if’.

Some fans even suggested that the Chiefs do not let the free agent leave the building without signing the dotted line.

Hollywood Brown wants Dobbins

Additionally, new Chiefs star Marquise Brown took to X and encouraged the signing.

On social media, he posted: “@Jkdobbins22 Think Diamonds.”

All the signs seemed very positive that Dobbins could be a Chief come the end of Tuesday.

Yet, reports have confirmed that the Chiefs have resigned the former running back Edwards-Helaire.

One former quarterback believes the Chiefs have executed a sneaky tactic in bringing in Dobbins.

Dobbins used as ‘leverage’

Chase Daniel took to X to share what the real intention was behind the former Raven’s visit.

In response to reporter Nate Taylor confirming Edwards-Helaire’s resigning, Daniel responded: “AKA: let’s bring JK Dobbins in as leverage to make Clyde Edwards-Helaire sign.”

The former QB thinks that Dobbins’ visit was to force the 24-year-old’s hand.

Showing him, we have Dobbins here that we will happily take on board instead if you do not agree to a deal.

Effectively, Daniel believes Dobbins was purely an instrument for leverage.

Daniel recalled the moment he was used as leverage for a deal, so could relate to what had unfolded.

On social, he posted: I was that leverage in March 2017 after I got cut by Philly. I was in Dallas & Jets flew me up 1st Class to meet with them & as soon as I got off the plane my agent called & said they signed Josh McCown to a $6M deal.”

The retried signal caller believes the Chiefs have used Dobbins just like the New York Jets used him in 2017.
