‘At best’… NFL expert gives an honest ranking of the Cowboys pre-draft roster in the NFC

In the current offseason, the Dallas Cowboys’ inactivity has been deafening while many of their rivals have become stronger.

Future dealings have pulled the handbrake up for the Cowboys to add free-agency talent.

Dak Prescott holds just over 20% of the Cowboys 2024 salary cap ($55 million).

Micah Parsons and CeeDee Lamb are approaching the conclusion of their rookie deals.

So, two of the best players in the NFL’s future contracts are limiting the current open market activity.

Cowboys have left starting positions vacant

An alarming number of players have left The Star and just a handful have been resigned to new deals.

O-linemen such as Tyron Smith and Tyler Biadasz have left the offense with massive holes to fill in the draft.

Veteran Stephen Gilmore, Johnathan Hankins, and Leighton Vander Esch (retirement) have left the defense in a difficult place.

Jerry Jones and the front office know they have to be perfect with their selections in the draft to revitalize the squad.

‘5th or 6th best NFC roster’

Colin Cowherd spoke about the situation America’s Team resides in and compared the current squad to the rest of the NFC.

On The Herd podcast, he stated: “Dallas has at best the 5th or 6th best NFC roster because they can make no moves in free agency.

“They (Cowboys) need to hit on like three draft picks, hit on them, one of them receiver, another could be tight end, they have got real needs here.

However, the Dallas Cowboys’ real needs start at running back and the offensive line.

Jerry stated one of the key issues to address was the running game on both sides of the ball.

O-line and running back remain paramount

The offensive line and the running back go hand in hand when developing a dominant run game.

Tight end is hardly an issue when considering the emergence of Jake Ferguson and the drafting of Luke Schoonmaker.

The teams Cowherd says have better rosters before the draft are, the Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers, San Francisco 49ers, Philadelphia Eagles, and the L.A. Rams.

Despite this, the Cowboys will back themselves to draft well.

Keeping hold of their top talent is at the top of the offseason agenda and they have stuck by it.
