The Kansas City Chiefs have seen another player hit the free agency market and move to an AFC rival.

Despite being the reigning back-to-back Super Bowl champions, the Chiefs are not retaining all the roster as they make way for new additions.

They are putting themselves in the best possible position to become the first team to ‘three-peat’.

As a result, they have said goodbye to their safety, Mike Edwards.

Edwards pens a 1-year deal

Edwards signed onto a one-year deal in 2023 and had an influential impact during his lone year.

Altogether, the 27-year-old managed to complete 51 tackles, recover two fumbles and an interception.

His interception was during the freezing-cold AFC Wildcard match-up against the Miami Dolphins.

Edwards left the game against his new employer, the Buffalo Bills, due to a concussion in the playoffs.

However, was cleared to return for the historic triumph against the Baltimore Ravens securing their place in Las Vegas.

Now, at the expiration of his contract, he landed in the open market and the Chiefs were inclined to not extend the safety.

Edwards joins the Bills

Ultimately, Edwards has now landed with the Chiefs AFC rivals the Bills.

Could the Edwards departure come back to haunt them?

Before his season in Missouri, he spent four years with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

He was selected in the third round of the 2019 NFL draft with the 99th overall pick.

The Cincinnati native was part of the 2020 Bucs defense which stopped the Chiefs from winning their second Super Bowl in successive years.

Nonetheless, he was welcomed with open arms to Arrowhead and delivered.

He has played his part in this historic 2023 season and is emotional to be leaving.

Chiefs give Edwards the perfect send-off

Chiefs took to X to produce a departing post for their safety and captioned it with: “Heck of a year, thank you for everything @M_Edwards7.”

Edwards swiftly replied and quoted the post, saying: “Thank you for everything Chiefs Kingdom! Brought me in with no hesitation and made family! Will always have a special place with me. Love forever!

Both player and franchise have now parted ways and a new chapter has opened for Edwards in the state of New York.

Chiefs Kingdom will always be grateful for his service.
