Rob Gronkowski explains Las Vegas Strip fears for Kansas City Chiefs stars

The Kansas City Chiefs are on the cusp of greatness, and with a win on Sunday, one NFL great thinks that could be enough to be called a dynasty.

Rob Gronkowski won four Super Bowl trophies, denying the Chiefs a chance to repeat in 2020 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Gronk caught two touchdown passes in that game from Tom Brady, helping Tampa win 31-9.

On Sunday, KC can do something that no one has done since the 2004 New England Patriots win consecutive Super Bowl titles.

What Gronkowski said about the Chiefs?

Since hanging up his cleats, Gronk has been working as an analyst for Fox Sports.

The former Patriots and Bucs tight end believes that a win would put Andy Reid’s group in the dynasty conversation.

“They are that close to a dynasty. If they win this game, I would say they are a dynasty,” Gronkowski said.

“Even if they lose and they won a Super Bowl next year, I would say they’re a dynasty. They just got to get that third Super Bowl win over a decade.”

On Sunday, the Chiefs will make their fourth Super Bowl appearance in five seasons, with only the San Francisco 49ers standing in their way.

Super Bowl Distractions

Staying focused, given where the Super Bowl is taking place this year, can be especially difficult, according to Gronk.

“Just being in the Vegas atmosphere, you can’t even sleep. Even if you’re staying sober, I swear. Like, you’re just fricking, like, energized”, says Gronkowski.

“Hopefully, the players are off the Strip, so they’re not dealing with that type of energy.

“Just stay calm, stick to your routine. Hopefully, everyone can just survive the week. Get an IV, drink a lot of water, drink a lot of electrolytes as well. Enjoy the time,” he advised.

Gronk’s thoughts on Mahomes and Kelce

Playing his entire NFL career with the G.O.A.T. Gronkowski knows better than most the importance of chemistry between a quarterback and his receivers.

When asked about the Chiefs Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, the five-time Pro Bowl tight end had high praise for the duo.

“One of the best quarterback – tight end connections in the league,” said Gronkowski.

“They’ve been building that connection since day one that they became teammates … And they just keep building on it. They’re amping up their game. They’re amping up their level of play every single year, week in and week out.”

In the post-season, Kelce has three touchdown catches and is second in receiving yards (262).

Mahomes has not tossed an interception in the playoffs, with a 68.0 completion percentage and a 100.7 passer rating.

“You can just tell by the way they talk to the media, the way they carry themselves, the way that they just prepare week in and week out, and the way they show up every single week out on the field, they can handle the pressure.”

In the 2020 Super Bowl, Mahomes threw two interceptions against the Bucs, while Kelce had 10 catches for 133 yards but couldn’t find the end zone.

The Chiefs’ first Super Bowl triumph came against San Francisco during the 2019 campaign.
