Travis Kelce says Chiefs planned to celebrate Super Bowl in way NFL bans during the season

The Kansas City Chiefs emerged victorious in Las Vegas against the San Francisco 49ers to win successive Super Bowls for the first time.

It would have been wrong to become Super Bowl champions in Las Vegas and not experience the Sin City lifestyle.

When Mecole Hardman caught the winning touchdown pass in overtime, the planning of the celebration would have been in full swing.

Many of the players who were victorious at Super Bowl LVIII would also have been a part of the team that won two rings in the previous four seasons.

The Vegas NFL ban

The problem the Chiefs players stumbled across was the ban the NFL had set upon them.

For a long time, the NFL was deterred from ever hosting the Super Bowl in Las Vegas due to the connotations of gambling, seeing the city as a bad image for the sport.

However, the Oakland Raiders packed up their gear and moved to the city in 2020.

Now there was an NFL connection with the Nevada city.

Fast forward to 2024, the first Super Bowl was held in Las Vegas, and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell described the event as an ‘incredible success’.

After such an ‘incredible’ Super Bowl experience, the city will now be open to further consideration for hosting future finals.

Nevertheless, any players who are in Las Vegas on official business are refused to enjoy the ‘gambling’ experience.

The league has prohibited this practice even if you are playing the Raiders in the regular season.

‘You can’t gamble’

Travis Kelce and his teammates acknowledged they could not enjoy Vegas on business.

However, this did not stop the idea of the team going back on a personal visit.

Kelce told his New Heights podcast: “This had been something that we talked about as a team, ah man when we win in Vegas, we’re going to go back and have a good time, do it right, hit the casino, we couldn’t do any of that.

“The NFL doesn’t allow you, even if we’re playing the Raiders in a regular week, if you’re there on business for the NFL you can’t gamble or do anything fun in Vegas, essentially.

“We went back and had some fun, we had been talking about it all year, if we were to win the Super Bowl again, and sure enough those memories you get, the aftermath, is the stuff I’ll remember for the rest of my life man.

“The teams are never the same, even to this day, a handful of decisions have been made with the Chiefs and a few guys aren’t with us.”

Returning to Vegas

Kelce implied he made it the team’s mission to return to Vegas and have the celebration they truly deserve.

You can only imagine the hangover.

After having to stick through a strict regime all year round, it is understandable they want to let their hair down.
