The Kansas City Chiefs are participating in their final OTAs that are scheduled before the mandatory minicamp in June, which signifies the beginning of their summer break.

The franchise has been hard at work as they have participated in three sets of three-day workout programs and all have been voluntary.

OTAs are an excellent chance for coaches to gather early research on their players, old and new, as they are put through their pace during padless sessions.

Moreover, Chiefs Kingdom has seen various updates being filtered out from the franchise.

Dave Toub shares a potential replacement for Harrison Butker on kickoffs

Special teams coordinator Dave Toub has hinted that Harrison Butker may be benched because of the new kickoff rule.

The XFL rule has been implemented for the 2024 season and Toub has suggested Justin Reid or Louis Rees-Zammit may be called on.

In addition, Xavier Worthy has been dealt an early setback in his NFL career after tweaking his hamstring.

Kansas City Chiefs OTA Offseason Workouts

Patrick Mahomes and Marquise Brown have been developing their early chemistry in offseason workouts.

Steve Spagnulo has suggested that rookie cornerback Jaden Hicks needs to become more vocal during his training camp.

However, the defensive coordinator expects his confidence to grow as he learns the playbook in more detail.

Steve Spagunolo is optimistic about their 2023 first-round pick at the OTAs

Furthermore, Spagnuolo has shared a positive update on their 2023 first-round draft pick Felix Anudike-Uzomah.

Per AtoZ Sports, “Felix (Anudike-Uzomah) has done a really nice job,” Spagnuolo said. “I mean, I’d say the same. We’re just talking about Chamarri (Conner). They’re in the same year, right? Second year. I think Felix is on the same trajectory.”

After having a steady rookie campaign registering an interception, Chamarri Coner has been starting the offseason program as the defensive’s nickel safety.

So, the expectations are growing for Felix Anudike-Uzomah to have a better campaign in his sophomore season when compared to his rookie year.

It was all new last year,” Spagnuolo explained. “Everything, right? Playing in your hometown, that we talked about a lot. And so I think he’s kind of figured a lot of those things out and I think on the field, it shows up. He’s more comfortable with the guys the guys [are] more comfortable with him, according to AtoZ Sports

Felix Anudike-Uzomah will be competing for a starting role against other Chiefs stars

Spagnuolo is optimistic about Anudike-Uzomah demonstrating why they used a first-round pick on him in 2023.

The defensive edge has settled down into the offseason program and will be looking to battle Mike Danna and George Karlaftis to become the predominant starter.

Spagunolo referenced that the rookie battled various injuries coming out of college which forced him to miss last year’s OTAs.

Therefore, with a fresh set of offseason training under his belt, Anudike-Uzomah is looking to be sharper and healthier for the 2024 season.

Ultimately, Spagnuolo is relying on all his defensive pieces in the 2024 campaign, with fellow defensive edge rusher Charles Omenihu also on track to make a return after his ACL tear.

The competition at DE is heating up and Anudike-Uzomah may have to settle for a rotational role during his second season.
