The NFL offseason gives players the chance to recover from lengthy injuries and one Kansas City Chiefs player has been making steady progress on his rehabilitation journey.

Charles Omenihu is on the road to recovery after suffering a brutal ACL tear against the Baltimore Ravens in the 2024 AFC Championship clash.

In 2023, as a free agent, Omenihu signed a two-year deal with the Kansas City Chiefs and joined Steve Spagunolo’s defense.

However, they were forced to play without their new signing because of his six-game suspension handed to him by the NFL.

After his ban, Omenihu became a vital asset in his debut season

When he returned for the Chiefs’ remaining 11 games he impressed, so much so, that he believes he should have been awarded a new deal this offseason.

Nonetheless, awarding a player an extension is not financially viable as they recover from a potential performance-altering injury.

Omeinhu’s progress has been significant, the 26-year-old shared a video of him walking around the Chiefs training center in a brace.

Moreover, a month later, the defensive end now has another update he has shared with fans on X.

Omenihu posted: “3 months today. Slow motion but we moving.”

The Super Bowl LVIII champion is hopeful that he can return to practice by mid-August.

His progress is significant and the Chiefs will be desperate to have their 7-sack player in 2023 back for their three-peat attempt.

Furthermore, Omenihu will be hopeful he can finally play in a Super Bowl final after being denied the chance in the AFC Championship.

Omenihu’s most significant play in 2024 came moments before he tore his ACL

Yet, his most significant play of the 2023 season came in the clash against the Ravens.

In one of his last snaps before tearing his ACL, Omenihu registered his third forced fumble of the year.

With 9 minutes on the clock in the second quarter, the defensive end found the gap in Lamar Jackson’s blindside.

He recorded a strip sack and the ball was recovered by fellow D-Lineman George Karlaftis to give the Chiefs a favorable field position. Nevertheless, the Chiefs turned over the ball after a failed attempt on fourth and one.

When healthy, Omenihu was a crucial piece of the Chiefs’ defensive jigsaw.
