Ron Rivera urges Dallas Cowboys to sign Philadelphia Eagles running back

The Dallas Cowboys’ offseason is simmering away and could be close to boiling point as free agency edges closer with every passing day.

Dak Prescott’s contract situation still has not reached any definite conclusion.

Jerry Jones’ ‘all in’ statement is seemingly unclear with many reports unsure of what he truly means.

Will CeeDee Lamb and Micah Parsons be rewarded for their performances last season and be paid, which swings back around to Prescott’s potential $59 million cap hit.

So many unanswered questions as free agency draws near.

Philadelphia Eagles v Dallas Cowboys

The clock ticks closer

One thing that the Cowboys must address in free agency is the run game.

Jerry Jones stated that running the ball was a major issue in their recent season.

Starting rusher Tony Pollard is about to hit free agency as the Cowboys have declined to use the franchise tag on him for a consecutive year.

The Dallas Cowboys, through the dynamic duo of Prescott and Lamb, were one of the best passing teams in the NFL, finishing only second in passing yards to the Miami Dolphins.

Prescott led the NFL in completions (410) and touchdowns thrown (36), while Lamb recorded the second most receiving yards (1,749) and finished with the most completions (135).

However, the story is not as bright on the rushing front.

Starter Tony Pollard breached the 1,000-yard marker but recorded his lowest average per carry in his career (4.0).

Additionally, the Cowboys finished 15th in total rushing yards per game.

De’Andre Swift move urged

Ron Rivera, the former Washington Commanders’ head coach, suggested what the Cowboys should do: “If they get better at their running game that will really help the passing game which is also very good right now.

“But I go out and sign Barkley or sign De’Andre Swift, or even bring Pollard back.

“You’ve got a really good opportunity to help your football team by being better in your running game and it will most certainly make your passing game even better.”

By having an assertive running game, pressure will be eased on Dak Prescott in the passing game.

The best offenses are a two-headed monster, rushing and passing.

Both Saquon Barkley and De’Andre Swift are being released by division rivals, and are dual-threats with their hands and feet.

Spoilt for choice

Pollard will hit free agency and could be tempted back on less money if he wants another shot to be the starter.

The 26-year-old started the 2023 season coming off a fractured fibula and started to show his potential at the business end of the campaign.

Or could the Cowboys make a daring swoop for Derrick Henry?

The Las Vegas Raiders Josh Jacobs will be a free-agency rushing prospect in the coming days.

America’s Team has plenty of options to ponder over as this free agency running back pool is stacked.
