Dallas Cowboys are sticking with Mike McCarthy despite overwhelming calls to change head coach.
Mike McCarthy looked to be in trouble after Dallas were beaten by Green Bay in the NFL play-offs.
This appears to be rare year on the coaching carousel, with an unusual number of high calibre coaches available for hire, including legendary Bill Belichick.
With Jim Harbaugh and Mike Vrabel also options, many expected McCarthy’s exit to happen swiftly.
It did not happen. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones decided to stick with McCarthy, issuing a statement backing the former Packers coach.

Rich Eisen reacts to Mike McCarthy news
NFL media’s Rich Eisen gave his verdict on the Cowboys’ big decision, telling his own show that he just believes Jerry Jones did not want a big upheaval, for a team which won 12 of 17 regular season games.
He said: “I don’t think Jerry had the stomach for it. Straight up. He’s way more patient than you give him credit for.”
He elaborated, adding that he felt Jerry Jones has been happy with the Cowboys up until now, and does not want to deviate from their progress, despite his desperation to win the Super Bowl again.
Eisen added: “Jerry thinks ‘If I fire him, I’ve got to go into the mosh pit with the Atlanta Falcons, the Carolina Panthers, the Las Vegas Raiders, and I’m behind the eight-ball. All of these teams have already gotten through a handful of head coaching candidates and interviews. I’m not going to put myself in that mix, am I?’
“If I fire my coach I also fire the play caller. We did have a number one scoring offense in the NFL this year.
“When it comes down to it, Jerry just nodded his head and goes, I got a coach here that won 12 games three straight years, a coach who called the plays way better than Kellen Moore did. Facts, those are facts, and the fact is he didn’t want to go ahead and pull the trigger on Mike McCarthy and his play caller and start the process again. He doesn’t want to do it.”
There is still speculation over the future of defensive co-ordinator Dan Quinn, who has five head coaching interviews, including one with a NFC East rival.
