What Jerry Jones told Dallas Cowboys players in meeting after Green Bay loss

It’s not like they needed a reminder, but the Dallas Cowboys owner is making it abundantly clear what he needs to see from his players moving forward.

Jerry Jones and the team are still reeling from their stunning 48-32 loss to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.

Jones said after the game that it was one of the most devastating losses he’s experienced as team owner.

Many players agree wholeheartedly with Jones in that regard.

“It hasn’t been 24 hours yet, and I’m still in shock,” Dallas Cowboys cornerback Jourdan Lewis said Monday. “More shock than anything.’”

“The end goal for any team is go to the Super Bowl. So, for most teams like us, we always want to go to the Super Bowl. It’s disappointing.”

“It’s a messed-up feeling,” says Cowboys wide receiver and returner KaVontae Turpin.

“Everybody around here is frustrated because we weren’t supposed to lose, but that’s just the National Football League. Green Bay came in hot and spicy, and they just stayed with it. We couldn’t stop them.”

Dallas was the #2 seed in the NFC heading into the postseason.

By many people’s estimation, they were the biggest thing standing in the way of the San Francisco 49ers making the Super Bowl.

We don’t know if the Niners’ path to the Super Bowl is a little easier with Dallas’ exit, but for America’s Team, there are a lot of questions to answer.

Must Win?

It’s been quite some time since Jerry Jones has seen his beloved Cowboys achieve playoff success.

Lewis says Jones spoke to the team after the loss to Green Bay about what he’s looking for in the future.

“We got to win, Lewis said when relaying Jones’ message in a meeting with the players this week.”

“This is the Dallas Cowboys, we had everything to win. We can’t let this feeling keep going on. I just feel like he (Jones) wants to win right now. The urgency is now. It was always that, and we always had that on our shoulders, but he made that clear. That was his point.”

Jones didn’t speak about the Mike McCarthy situation and whether or not he’d be back, but the win-now mode adds to the speculation of a potential move for Bill Belichick.

At least one current Cowboys player wants McCarthy back.

“Mike McCarthy, that’s my guy man,” says Turpin.

“He gave me an opportunity, especially coming this year on the offensive end.”

Time Running Out?

The sentiments expressed by Cowboy players, staff and fans following the defeat are understandable, given the talent on the roster.

For Jerry Jones, who knows how much longer he’ll be in the Cowboys’ front office?

“Jerry talked about how he doesn’t have too many years left in this business,” Turpin said.

“He just wants it bad. He wants a ring bad.”

Jones purchased the Cowboys in 1989 and has seen his team capture three Super Bowls.

He’s 81 years old, and his age, he’ll need to figure out sooner rather than later what comes after he calls it quits.
