Patrick Mahomes’ arch nemesis Joe Burrow has expressed a great deal of confidence about beating the Chiefs next year.

Despite winning the AFC Championship game before their win at Super Bowl LVII, the Chiefs have a losing record against the Cincinnati Bengals with Burrow.

On the Kelce brothers’ live New Heights podcast episode, the Bengals quarterback was their special guest.

Burrow knows the Bengals are ‘built to beat’ the Chiefs

The 27-year-old claimed the Bengals are ‘built to beat’ the Kansas City Chiefs when speaking with Travis Kelce.

However, the two rival players were very complimentary of the opponent’s skill sets and caliber of superstar talent.

Only two players have managed to quarterback their teams to victory over Patrick Mahomes in the playoffs.

The G.O.A.T Tom Brady and Burrows are the only successful signal callers in the postseason.

Steve Spagnuolo ‘has a hard time tricking’ Joe Burrow

On Pro Football Talk, presenters Mike Florio and Chris Simms spoke about the success that Burrow has had over the Chiefs.

Simms believes his raw ability makes it hard to formalize a robust defensive game plan: “Well Burrow has kinda got that Brady-ish type of way like, ‘Wait wait hold on I’ll figure this out, block him, check this, we’re gonna do that’… Steve [Spagnuolo] has a hard time tricking him.”

Burrow has an exceptional gift with the ball in his hands and on his day is the best natural talent in the league.

However, as Florio alludes to, he struggles to stay healthy: “The key for Burrow is to find ways to avoid injury. He had that unavoidable ACL tear in his rookie year, came back from it good as new in 2021 a led the Bengals to a Super Bowl.”

Burrow’s health record only factor giving the Chiefs the advantage

Skip Bayless has previously stated he believes that Burrow is a better natural talent than Mahomes but cannot stay healthy enough.

Moreover, he endured a wrist injury in 2023 hindering the chances of the Bengals reaching another AFC Championship.

Now, returning healthy, he possesses one of the biggest threats to the Chiefs ‘three-peat’ chances.

The two franchises are scheduled to meet at Arrowhead Stadium in 2024 which could be a dress rehearsal for the AFC Championship potentially.
