Brett Veach was busy speaking to media on Friday ahead of the NFL Draft but one former player does not believe in one comment he made.
The Kansas City Chiefs general manager is ready for the NFL Draft this Thursday as he will start to refine his priorities.
On Friday, Veach claimed only 16-18 players are first-round caliber draft talent this year.
Veach refused to rule out a trade upwards but needs support to do so
This has fueled the fire that the Chiefs could be tempted to trade up when an opportunity presents itself.
In addition, Veach did not rule out a trade into the top 15 to secure a desirable rookie but said he would need the front office’s backing.
Chiefs are set to pick a left tackle or a wide receiver when on the clock with the 32nd pick.
Their move could be determined by the way the draft falls and which players remain available.
Furthermore, the receiving core has been an issue that the Chiefs have tried to address this offseason.

Free agent Marquise Brown has plugged a hole left by receivers being released in 2024.
Kadarius Toney returns to training and Veach believes that he is the best receiver
Kadarius Toney was spotted training with Patrick Mahomes and the offense on social media which provoked a mixed reaction from fans.
After a rough season riddled with mistakes, some thought Toney’s future in Missouri was over.
However, Brett Veach expressed his confidence in the wide receiver: “He is our most talented wideout… If he can stay healthy, he can really do a lot of great things in the offense.”
On the Nightcap podcast, Chad Ochocinco took aim at the remarks made about the wide receiver.
The former target man stated: “I don’t buy that! It’s all a game. All smoke and mirrors. Bunch of bull____!
Ochocinco believes all the positive comments are a straight-up lie by the Chiefs GM.
Shannon Sharpe even suggested it was a way to keep the 25-year-old’s stock value high.
Ochocinco calls out comments but has supported another claim
Nonetheless, Ochocinco did believe one of Veach’s comments about Toney: “He [Veach] did say something right, Kadarius Toney being the most skilled receiver that they do have.”
It is hard to overlook how the wide receiver’s 2023 season fizzled out at the tail end.
Toney was placed on the injured reserve after week 15 and did not play another snap the rest of the season.
Later, Toney claimed he was not injured creating more questions about his future.
Ultimately, he has been training and is approaching the final year of his existing contract.
The receiver must eliminate careless mistakes to have a valued role on the offense and regain their trust.
