NFL insider gives bold prediction surrounding Dak Prescott’s contract situation with Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys have reconstructed their quarterback’s deal during this offseason and opened up new possibilities for his future.

After the Dallas Cowboys announced that Dak Prescott’s contract extension would be put on the “back burner”, the rumours began.

Even before this decision was made, everyone had already assumed that the quarterback would renew with the franchise on a big contract. Now, practically all the debates are around which team will welcome Prescott at the end of the 2024 season.

If we consider that the chance of Dallas signing an external free-agent by the end of April is very slim, there’s still time for Jerry Jones and the organisation to reflect on what is best to do with their QB.

ESPN’s senior insider Jeremy Fowler stated this past friday that “the notion that the Cowboys don’t want to re-sign Dak Prescott is false. They are going to try.”

It is true that this delay in securing a long-term deal for their signal-caller has to do with money. A huge amount of it, in fact.

“Now, can they find common ground on the contract when Prescott has unprecedented leverage here? The 60 plus million dollars cap at this year dead money on the contract next year… It’s going to be hard for them to do, but I do expect them to try.”

This pause in the saga involving the player doesn’t mean that the franchise has lost confidence in him. Fowler added:

“They still see Prescott as their long term answer. They have Trey Lance as a developmental quarterback right now, but all offseason signals are that they’re going to try to resign their big three at some point – Prescott, Cee Dee Lamb and Micah Parsons.”

What the fans think

In the comments and reposts sections below the excerpt in which the reporter discusses the team’s situation, some fans showed indignation with the organisation’s attitude and others with the quarterback.

“The notion that they want to re-sign Dak is false. They want to screw him over and would like him to help them do it. Learn the difference.” – @AlohaStylzz89

“Just like they ‘try’ to sign free agents with laughable offers?” – @jmonohon

“Dak will never be The Man.” – @HarryUticamper1

“Shuttt upppp. They want him at their number. Same as ever. They failed. Now Dak is gonna make them pay the market price or walk.” – @OhItsTIP

The future of the Cowboys are beyond Dak Prescott

America’s Team has commitments with two other pieces that make the team work. Cee Dee Lamb and Micah Parsons.

And Jones seems to be aware that he needs to act fast to retain his stars. He’s also conscious that he may have to give up on some players to stick with the ones the Cowboys need the most.

According to Dallas insider Nick Harris, the general manager doesn’t necessarily think he has an order of re-signings to follow, but he understands the urgency of keeping Lamb in the squad.

“He’s out there and he’s more valuable than anybody else.”

“But that valuable, to have to give up four or five players to have him, you have to get that reconciled. That’s what I’m trying to say. It’s a lot quicker and easier said than done.”
