The Dallas Cowboys have held off from giving their franchise quarterback an extension and he could be tempted to join one of their bitter rivals in 2025.

Dak Prescott’s new contract saga has been rolling on since the moment the Dallas Cowboys were dumped out of the playoffs at home by the Green Bay Packers.

Moreover, the franchise knew since their dismissal by the San Francisco 49ers in 2023, Prescott would be sniffing for an extension.

Cowboys expert was annoyed the team did not extend Prescott in 2023

Cowboys Insider Dave Helman believed Jerry Jones should have tied down the signal-caller to a new deal the day after.

Therefore, they would have avoided the situation in which they currently find themselves.

Ultimately, the 2023 MVP runner-up holds all the cards and if the Cowboys do not present a suitable offer then he will be tempted to look elsewhere.

In March 2025, franchises with quarterback struggles and that are willing to pay top-dollar will be circling Prescott.

Fringe playoff teams will be eyeing up the three-time Pro Bowler as the potential piece to bring home a Super Bowl ring.

Every day that ticks by without Prescott’s long-term future tied down in Dallas, the likelihood of him testing free agency in 2025 grows.

Dak Prescott is seen as the long-term future and a leader in Dallas

NFL Insider Tom Pelissero has reported that all the coaching staff see Prescott as the long-term QB.

Furthermore, the coaches like Prescott as a leader and adore his personality around the building.

Nonetheless, Jerry Jones will have the final decision being the Dallas Cowboys General Manager.

Jones could make the QB play out his contract and then offer him a lucrative extension if he proves his value.

Yet, Prescott will not have to accept it and could entertain offers from other teams and play them against each other.

In his recent OTA interview, Prescott claimed that money was not an issue but he could be tempted to go to the highest bidder in free agency.

Chris Simms believes that Dak Prescott is ‘made for New York’

Mike Florio and Chris Simms discussed potential landing spots for the 2023 passing touchdowns leader and the latter was excited about Prescott throwing on a New York Giants jersey.

“I would love it, I think he’s a Giants-type of QB, honestly,” Simms explained on Pro Football Talk.

“He’s got that attitude, the mantra, the block out the noise. He can handle the heat as far as the media and all that. He would be made for New York.”

There is a chance that Prescott could head to the Big Apple and make the switch across the NFC East division.

Additionally, FS1 expert Nick Wright also alluded to Bill Belichick and Dak Prescott being a ‘package deal’ on the Giants in 2025.

Ultimately, the Cowboys QB will have plenty of teams to pick from in 2025 if the Cowboys do not show faith in him.
