Kansas City Chiefs star could make ‘obscene amount of money’ if he hits Free Agency, says NFL expert

L’Jarius Sneed was a key part of the Kansas City Chiefs team to win the Super Bowl and now they face a battle to hold onto him.

In normal circumstances the Kansas City Chiefs would be an absolute lock to re-sign L’Jarius Sneed.

However, with Chris Jones also set to become a free agent, there is a real dilemma over whether the Kansas City Chiefs will be able to pay both – or what other moves they might have to sacrifice to do so.

Earlier this week one NFL expert warned ‘don’t bet’ on Sneed returning, while Rich Eisen offered another view, that Jones and Sneed must absolutely be retained, at a higher priority than any other business.

It is a subject the back to back Super Bowl winners must figure out, and quickly.

L’Jarius Sneed is in demand

Everybody saw how well L’Jarius Sneed played in the Super Bowl and the AFC Championship game. He is a legit cornerback.

Speaking ahead of the release of his NFL 101 Top Free Agents list for 2024, Around The NFL’s Gregg Rosenthal believes that if Sneed hits free agency, he will command a huge salary.

He told the podcast: “Sneed is someone I just think, if he gets free, the league loves him.

“You know there’s no cornerbacks on this list. Jaylon Johnson I’m almost certain is gonna get tagged [in Chicago], like, at some positions, there’s just not any players, the two positions are cornerback and tackle.

“So if Sneed did somehow shake free, he’d make an obscene amount of money.”

The Chiefs will be aware of this and so might Sneed. It is unclear what kind of salary he will be demanding, or if he would consider a lesser one to stay in Kansas.

Chris Jones is priority

Chris Jones is widely viewed as a priority and Rosenthal understands this approach, despite the recognition of Sneed’s market value.

He explained: “Jones is the irreplaceable one, because he is more irreplaceable. That’s why his number is so much higher. Their defensive line is quite thin if they didn’t have Chris Jones.”

It is up to the Chiefs not to let either player hit free agency. The idea in the off-season is to get stronger, and not weaker, and losing either would put real pressure on the organisation to hit home runs in the 2024 Draft.
