There is growing speculation over whether the Kansas City Chiefs can hold onto their star defensive players.
Chris Jones and L’Jarius Sneed are key players for the Kansas City Chiefs, but there is a problem, with both set to enter free agency.
The Chiefs have taken up an option on Chris Jones’ contract, but that alone offers no guarantees they will be able to keep him, especially with interest expected from other teams.
This desire to keep the linebacker could prove difficult for the Chiefs to pay Sneed too, and it has already been suggested ‘not to bet’ on him returning.

Chris Jones and L’Jarius Sneed decisions due
What will happen in free agency is a topic of big debate, and both players will be sought after, following Super Bowl success.
Amid growing questions, the Chiefs front office has been urged to try and strike a deal with both players.
Super Bowl champion Booger MacFarland told ESPN: “I think Chris Jones is a top two defensive tackle in football, [or top one] depending on what day Aaron Donald is playing and how you feel about him.
“L’Jarius Sneed has proven he can play inside and outside, and all he does is shut down the best receiver, he travels with the best receiver, he makes impact plays, and in the biggest game Sneed plays the best.
“So I think when you look at Brett Veach, there is enough money in your organisation, especially with this salary cap that’s like playdough you can mould it how you want to, to pay Chris Jones and L’Jarius Sneed, because those two guys I think are the lynchpins to one of the youngest defense and best defense in football.”
Chiefs also need help on offense
While Steve Spagnuolo and the defensive coaching staff would love to be able to keep Jones and Sneed, head coach Andy Reid will want the balance to be right.
The Chiefs need to improve on offense. Patrick Mahomes had to do too much work this year to be competitive. Why not try to make his life a little easier?
This might not mean a glamour signing like Mike Evans. But if the Chiefs wanted to re-define themselves, they could look to make a sacrifice on defense and let one of their stars go, and chase a receiver. It is a difficult dilemma.
